Thick Red Live Electric Cable under drivers seat, for winch?

Nice system @Glenn Board and I can see why an electric winch is preferable.

On your proposed use of isolator switch and Anderson plug I would consider carefully putting a fuse between them lower than max rating on the Anderson plug. However, I'm not an auto electrician, just cautious about overloading electrics.
You fuse a cable at the supply end to protect the size of cable, Anderson plugs are safe, which is why they were designed for fork lift batteries. Beware of cheap isolators as they can cause high resistance. An Anderson plug is an isolator in its own right.

Thanks, so no real need for an isolator then, just unplug it, so you think 2m of 10mm 70amp cable will do the job?

Also, could i just take the positive feed from the battery and put the earth near the winch?
I would think so, in your application you don't have much load so you not going to see near that max current which is normally measured at the stalling point on a winch.
You need a good chassis earth point so you could pick up on the seat base studs as they are quite substantial. (Assuming I am correct in thinking the winch is going between the seats?)

Thanks, yes, i will fit it behind the second row of seats, and earth on the front passenger seat base

There are factory threaded earth studs located underneath each seat if required, you need to fish about under the factory flooring but they are close to the opening in the flooring that the wiring comes out of so not to hard to find but are semi covered so not immediately apparent at first glance

thats great, thank you, i think i am ready to do the job now, just need to get some cable now

Call me over precatious, but I'd still tend to put in a manual isolator switch which is accessible during any winching for safety.. It also means that on hook up to winch, the supply line can be isolated, so protecting anyone from accidental operation of the winch, but more importantly, forms a cut out for travel without need of unplugging the Anderson..

Also, I know Anderson's are good, but that's still one chunky live cable.. Which you can basically weld with. But that's just me probably..

If you use starter lead cable, go for the best set that you can get, the commercial ones..

Agreed, if your going to use jump leads to wire it make sure its decent cable as they are some cheap ones out there that use under size cable, smoking in the van is not allowed ;)
