Thinkware F750 To 770

Just came across some info that I thought was worth passing on. It's known that the rear camera is the same in both these models, but it's also been discovered that the 750 and 770 are hardware identical, with the only difference being external cosmetics. This means that it's possible to upgrade a 750 to a 770 by means of a firmware upgrade and from then on it will act like a 770 in terms of software updates. For people like me who bought the 750 (I have one in the car when it came out and then bought another for the van because the extra features of the 770 weren't worth the extra cost to me) it means a free upgrade path, the only caveat being that you mustn't have upgraded the firmware on your 750. I haven’t yet but I’ve got this weekend off and it’s on my list so I’ll let you know. I’ve been trawling through those forums though and it sounds as if the low light mode of the 770 is only active in parking mode and not while driving. I’ll give it a go on one of mine and then compare it to the other.

Ok I can confirm this works, copy a file to your micro SD, rename it replacing '770' with '750', put it in the F750 and 5 minutes later you've got an F770



It's apparently straightforward to upgrade to later versions of the 770 firmware now as it now thinks it is one, but I haven't done that yet as it's just too damn hot to sit in the car for that long! Super night mode does appear in the menu now, but I haven't tried it as I don't use parking recording... and it's not night

Not sure what the other differences between the 2 units are but I'll find out over the next few days.
