Tourershine, can you please let what kind of work you do so that us mere mortals have an idea.
Cheers
There is a really long winded passionate to myself, but possibly boring answer to others reading my often essay written replies to certain questions.
But, in 'mortal' terms, we offer two services. The first part, which accounts for 75% of my business, is where we take a Caravan or Motorhome that will be constructed from 2 main materials, aluminium or fibreglass. These are very common for going dull, chalky, patchy, yellowing or cloudy, but in general terms they can look 'tired' in a little as 18 months of sun exposure. All normal for these types of materials.
We specialise in Restoring these surfaces back to their factory condition, and educating the owner on how to prevent this from happening again.
Basically we take an old looking Caravan and Motorhome, spend up to 8 hrs with a machine polisher and very specialist products and years of experience with these surfaces, returning the Caravan or Motorhome back to it's 'as new' condition, or if you read many of our reviews, better than when they were new. (There is a simple reason why that term is often described as the result of our work) but that gets long winded also.
The second part of our business, which accounts for the other 25% is what Mark has reviewed. This is where we take a factory fresh (Marks was slightly different, because although his is a brand new Motorhome, it was actually constructed 2 years ago, hence why his needed some Restoration work) this is quite rare, but can happen. But, usually we take a factory fresh Caravan or Motorhome, and apply a specialist product that will add a semi-permanant coating to the surfaces. The job of this product is mainly to block out the suns UV damage, and prevents the fading i've just described above.
Also as part of that service, we inspect every inch of the new purchase for defects, which are common on new units and range from poor quality repairs, cracks, fractures, poor quality PDI work, right down to insane faults like screws protruding through panels, and panels not fitting correctly. This is then reported to the customer and then we instruct the customer on how to deal with their dealer in a way that should yield the best outcome.
My business is in it's 12th year. It's been editorial featured in MMM magazine twice, Caravan magazine twice, we have worked for Lindsey Porter, the guy who wrote all the Haynes manuals, and now featured in his latest book 'How to improve your Caravan' we have letters printed in several magazines from customers on a very regular basis over the years. We are the only company that many magazines recommend when technical questions are asked about the above common damage, including several times directly by the Caravan and Motorhome club. We get calls from dealers picking our brains about certain issues they cannot rectify, manufactures have contacted us several times about preventive issues and now we have a review on the T6 Forum, which is up there with proudest moments
All in all, not a bad little business that consists of myself, and my brother who works for me. The business has deliberately been kept small, because my passion is not making huge sums of money, it's allowing me a life that consists of modifying my T6, a 4 day week, and as many holidays in Europe in my own Motorhome as possible which is my true passion.
Ok, so I did go on a little more than I wanted.
