Last year I fitted a pair of uprated gas struts. They have been fine until yesterday(Sunday) when I raised the tailgate briefly(5mins) then when I closed it there was such a bang. On lifting the tailgate again I found that the lefthand strut had popped off the top ball locator and had jammed up into the recess at the top where the tailgate fits into. The metal retaining clips where still in place on the socket. So far I have no idea why this let go and need to investigate further but to say the bang almost made me sh1t myself - thinking my back window had exploded. Anyone any ideas where to start looking for a cause as these struts are almost new. Many thanks CT.
