Trying to charge my father's battery with a ctek mxs 5, done my own multiple times, but when I try to do his, I can hear a noise in the engine and his dashboard lights are flicking on and off, but the battery does not seem to be charging, very strange, any help appreciated

Sound like the battery isn't charged.

Probably due to a bad connection to the charger.

But a 5A charger will be extremely slow.

And may take two days to fully charge the battery.

Another option is that the battery is too low a voltage for the charger to detect and start.

Got a few pics?

Maybe a vid clip of the charger lights?

looks like the battery is extreamly low.. . .

anfd the charger hasnt got enough power to charge the battery and run the van modules. . .

id try disconnecting the NEG battery terminal from the battery.

then connect the charger direct across the battery terminals . . . and leave it for 24hrs charging.

then remove the charger, reconnect the NEG termial, then try and start the van.

+++++++++++

i think you would need a 10A or above charger to get over that, 5A is just too low for a battery that flat.

Dell you're a life saver mate , that worked well, managed to get enough charge in after removing the neg connection
