Using rear step light in front steps

I was wondering if anyone had used the standard rear sliding door step light in the front two steps. Cutting the hole themselves.
As an alternative to getting the caravelle lights and steps. Can’t see why this wouldn’t work. Was just wondering if anyone had done it or seen anyone who’s done it.
Think the caravelle step lights look weird.
