Van centres not providing quote for work

Hello all :) , I have a 2020 VW Crafter CR35 MWB Trendline, engine code DAUA, covered ~27K miles from new by me.

I have found an oil leak occuring in the area of the cylinder head cover. Due to the charge air cooler being on top of the engine, I can't assess if the oil leak is from injector seals in cylinder head cover and or the seal on cylinder head cover.

In the past 2 days I have called 5 VW van centres service departments, stating issue and requesting a quote prior to booking vehicle in, none have so far given a quote.

I don't wish to book vehicle in without having an idea of costing. I feel let down that none have provided a quote so far. Is this the experience others get when requesting quote prior to booking? do I just keep badgering for a quote?

Have you tried your local VW specialist? They tend to be more helpful than VW Commercial (and cheaper if they do the work for you).

The situation might be different if you were hoping for a good-will gesture from VW as your van is a year out of waranty.

So far I've tried 2 independent VW specialists local to me. Both stated they didn't work on Crafter, as it didn't fit on their ramps. I did explain the issue and thought it may not need a ramp for work, but both declined.

I wasn't hoping for a goodwill gesture from VW. As van has not been serviced by VW. All servicing so far done by me, as it's just been basic servicing. I used correct filters and oil, etc.

I have managed to get 2 quotes out of the 5 VW van centres I called. Both quotes differ on some parts used and labour cost for same fix. Both are not renewing parts as stated in VW service manual for engine.

VW service guide states renew charge air hoses to charge air cooler on removal. 4 seals per injector on removal, copper seal ring at base, rubber O ring about middle of length, rubber seal of injector to rocker cover, rubber O ring for fuel return on injector. 2x stretch bolts used on the 2x injector clamps need renewing. The bolts have sealing grommet on rocker cover. Manual states to renew if damaged, but taking the view more cost efficient to just renew.

VW van centre 1 is quoting ~£870 for job in written quote. Not quoting for charge air hoses, which are parts costing ~£188 from other quote. Not quoting for the rubber O ring for fuel return on injector, but doing other 3 injector seals. Quote includes fuel return line to all 4 injectors (line as a part doesn't include seals), other van centre is not quoting for this. When I queried why change of fuel return line was in quote, I was told "made of a plastic type of material and can break upon removal". If part is not used I don't pay for it, nothing stated if labour cost would reduce, part costing is ~£72 in quote. Includes 2x injector clamp stretch bolts and 2x sealing grommets. Labour for job is ~£146 higher than VW van centre 2 quote. When I queried difference in labour I was told "All Volkswagen dealers are independent and therefore labour rates can vary around the country. The price in our estimate is our price.". In quote the labour cost has no time allocation, hourly rate charge, just sum of ~£633.

VW van centre 2 originally quoted ~£520 for job, whilst stating this on phone changed quote to ~£760, stating they had omitted charge air hoses as required for job. Quote went up by ~£240 on phone, but charge air hoses on written quote stated at ~£188. Based on these facts, I can only assume labour charge of ~£52 to renew 2 hoses, which come off for job any way. 2 seals per injector are not being renewed. Rubber seal of injector to rocker cover, rubber O ring for fuel return on injector. When queried why these were not included, told all parts that need renewing for job are in quote. At this point, highlighted to me, as no diagnostics has been paid for fix requested to van, this would be required to have parts warranty as per terms and conditions. Includes 2x injector clamp stretch bolts and but not 2x sealing grommets. In quote the labour cost has no time allocation, hourly rate charge, just sum of ~£487.

Neither has yet responded with adding whichever injector seals they are omitting. Neither are inspiring confidence I'm getting level of "fix" for outlay on labour cost.
