Van engine not starting correctly when I take my foot off the brake.

Here’s an odd one folks. Four occasions now I have almost stopped and the engine cuts out (start stop), once prematurely, the rest as normal.
On trying to restart, it just judders constantly.
I’ve been in awkward positions when it happened and after a minute or so, switch it all off, then start the van up again.
I don’t want to be somewhere where it’s dangerous!
Any ideas ?

Van spec, age and mileage?

And pics?

Out of warranty yet?

Extended warranty?

First thought was low battery or starter motor getting iffy.

Has it still got the original battery?

Had the battery tested at all? - any problems starting after a few days?

Firstly, the warranty supposedly ran out 1st Sept. I’m almost sure it runs out 16thJan 2023 having bought it from Swansway, Jan2020, 8500 miles on it, service van.
Original battery, no problem starting after a long period. Not had it tested.
This happened late this afternoon, so unable to do much.

What do you mean by judders ?
Engine trying to start and failing, or something else ?

You can manually turn off stop-start in the short term to avoid the issue.

It’s like a fast narrow boat engine noise when it’s tries to start, duh, duh, duh, etc. best way to describe it.

Could you record the noise, stick it on YouTube and link to it here ?
Sounds like it is trying to start.

Checked the starter battery voltage this morning and it’s 12.2 volts.
Just opened the van, lifted bonnet, nowt else.

12.2 V is fine. Our van is currently at 12.1 V and it will start instantly when we drive it later this morning.

We need to hear the sound it is making.

Tried to reproduce the fault today, no joy.
But …. Orange plug light came on the dash. Stopped, turned off, restarted and carried on with my day.

Bloody Hell !
Just slowing down to join the A38 in Willington ( near Derby ) and the fkn thing cut out with a message - Start/Stop Fault, start the engine manually.
This is dangerous and despite two calls to VW Birmingham and an e-mail sent from their sales dept to service to call me - Nothing.
I think I’ll stick a Lada badge on it.

Guess what ?
I thought turning the Stop/Start off was working until the poxy thing cut out on a main road at 20mph
No power steering, nothing.
I tried 4 times to restart and finally got it home (500yards).

It’s finally fooked.
Packed up just pulling away on a busy island, Burton upon Trent.
Spent the afternoon directing people around it. I had visions of the back end disappearing a few times.
Hazards on, stopped and still had people parking behind !
Turns over but won’t fire. A few choice words with B’ham van centre. It goes in tomorrow as a priority. ( would have been 22nd November ).
