VW Cheltenham closing?

Ian hill is the boss of Swiss vans so imagine this will be true if he’s posting it

This affects me as well. I thought the 16 mile schlep to Cheltenham was a pain in the 4rse and now I've got to go to Bristol or Swindon! While my van's under the original manufacturers warranty, I don't really want to go independent so am I right in thinking that you can't take a van to a VW car dealer? (I've got one 6 miles away). Also, I read earlier this week that Bristol is likely to be the first city in the country to introduce a total ban on diesel cars / vans in the not too distant future. It leaves me wondering how long the VW centre there will survive.

I have written to VW probably to no avail to check if we can use all VW, I very much doubt it but as they have offered 8 free fill ups what is the point in driving a 100 miles!!!

You are correct sadly they are closing, my van went in on the day they were told, I felt so bad for the staff.

I’m not sure where I will go for the next service, I wont use Swindon I had too many issues in the past with them plus the new site they moved to is a nightmare to park.

I bought a rather nice VW crafter (is that counted as going over to the dark side?) from them last week as a base for my next camper.

I was splendidly dealt with by a young man called Alex. A couple of days later he called and apologised for not getting straight back to me as the entire workforce were told the day after my sale, that they are being made redundant. It was more than a bit of a shock to him.

Fingers crossed the staff will get looked after

Is your van still under warranty? With all my cars, I generally get them them serviced by the main dealer until warranty runs out and then go to an independent after that. I'm beginning to rethink that with my T6 but can't quite make the final decision. That said, I have heard very good things about 360 Autos in Gloucester and spoke to one of the owners there - a nice guy named James. He tells me that they can do anything that a VW service centre can, use all VW parts (inc. lubes /fluids) and that they can also access the VW service IT system (or whatever it's called) to ensure that your records are kept up to date. Oh, and they are cheaper than VW as well.

Has anybody else got a view on using independents for service work (either in or out of warranty)?

Isn’t that what they already were? My last invoice, from memory, was Inchcape.

I think the confusion is mine (maybe).

My van is calling for an 'inspection'. Called Cheltenham Van Centre last week only to be told that they couldn't book it in because they would be a different company from the start of this week and were in the process of changing systems.
Called the VW service line today and they tell me that they are closing at the end of the month.

Definitely closing, they live in hope that someone link Heritage comes in. This is VW putting pressure on the franchise not having up to scratch premises, apparently they can't get enough vans in the showroom. If this was a car dealership I'd understand but this is van centre and I don't think the same applies, but that's my opinion.

Ahhhh, I wonder.....last time I was in I told the salesman that I would be back to look at the new big California. He said they can’t sell them as they don’t have the height in the shop floor to get one in.

Yep I had the same mail, so they think I would actually be willing to drive from Wiltshire to Manchester for a service.

Someone on here also mentioned 360 auto in Cheltenham.

That was me - I've never actually used them myself (my van is only just over a year old ) but I have heard good things from a number of VW owners.
