OK so here's the short of it - T6.1 DSG 22 plate. 17k miles. Koni Shocks and Evoteck Springs added c/o CRS when van had less than 100 miles on the clock. Lowered 50mm. Running 19 inch Brocks on 245/45/19 Uniroyals.
Been very happy with the ride etc.
Developed a bit of a clunk/snap/crackle and pop when steering stationary or very low speed.
I assumed it was coming from the OS Top Mount, possibly Drop Links - but at only 17k miles... Surely not??
I took it to the VW Stealership as its still under warranty but they immediately rejected even looking at it as a warranty because of the Konis, springs and lowering.
Now - that pis*ed me off no end but I bit my tongue and paid £130 for a 'non-warrenty' inspection. After (supposedly) having another look at it, the 'engineer' confirmed that the OS Top mount probably needs replacing (thank you Sherlock).
But again this would NOT be done under warranty because of the associated Aftermarket parts
Furthermore the engineer advised that it was in fact BECAUSE of the Koni shocks, the Springs and the lowering that the Top Mounts are now knackered!
Now... This much puzzles me.
Despite VWs dodgy approach to literally everything... the fact remains that the Top Mount probably does need swapping. But at 17k miles.... that seems mighty early in my mind?
So my question is this...
Would lowering the vehicle and adding aftermarket suspension feasibly add so much strain on the top mounts (or similar) that they'd need replacing this early on? Has anyone experienced anything like this?
I've since rescued the van from my local Stealership having not replaced anything. I've had enough with them. They are FOREVER using my aftermarket modifications as reasons to charge me through the nose and I simply don't trust them anymore.
I've since spoken to a gentleman of an engineer at a local family run VW Specialist who's going to have a look at it for me in a couple of weeks.
