VW T6 Caravelle 2016 Battery Fault?

Hi all,

I‘m having an issue with my T6 Caravelle battery under the bonnet.

(Note: Leisure batt checked, with van battery connected or disconnected, leisure battery sat at 12.7vdc, leisure system does not appear to be affected by what is happening with the van battery?).

Van Bosch AGM 70Ahr battery

Van sat on the drive for a week without being used, not particularly cold, and the battery was measured at 4.59vdc?!

23/10/23

Charged up battery using intelligent charger in AGM mode.

After charge completed, measured 12.7vdc.

24/10/23

Measured battery at 12.48vdc
Fitted battery to van (6.00pm), before connecting the negative, placed meter in series and measured current (without ignition on).
Just over 1.0 amp being drawn continuously.

(with 70Ahr battery, we are going to exhaust the battery in under 3 days if van is not in use ?)

Connected battery negative and started van. Measured 13.2vdc so assume battery is being charged by the van.
Ran the van for 5 mins.
Then measured battery voltage at 12.2dc (less than the 12.4vdc that it should be?)

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

12.48v the day after it was charged when not connected to anything is too low. A good battery would maintain 12.6v minimum with ease.

Also, the systems in the van take a while to shut down once the bonnet and doors are shut, and the vehicle locked.

Pete
