Warranty on from a user dealer, cover window leaks and slipping clutch?

Hey everyone,

New to the forums, though I've found them really helpful since buying my 2020 plate T32 conversion a few weeks ago.. the SD card audio bug hack was a great help. (I'm actually pretty confused by the T5/T6/T32 thing... Is my van a t32 or a t6, because it looks like T6...and when I google T3, it all looks very different, and much older. Or is it just similar and but with minor spec changes?)

Anyway, bought from a used dealer... just a regular car/van dealer, not a camper specialist. My van was a trade in for them. I ride motorbikes, and have never bought a 4 wheeled vehicle from a dealer before so I'm not sure what's expected under warranty, hoping you guys can help. I bought the extra warranty, although it's only a few weeks ago I purchased... I have a few issues..

1. Waterpump in sink stopped working after a day.
2. Clutch feels like it's slipping when it's a cold day, and I'm on a hill start. (didn't notice during test drive, as its not always an issue)
3. Accelerator sticks half way down and you have to push more weight down to get it to the floor. I noticed this during test drive, they greased it and said "see how you get on". It's not better a few weeks later. I don't think this impacts performance, because its a slow van anyway, but doesn't feel right.
4. The window in the back on the door leaks when it rains heavily, it leaks enough to get the bedding bed and puddles on the floor in the step.

There were more issues (gas was empty, a fuse was gone so the fridge didn't work), which I didn't notice at the time and have since fixed myself.

Are all the above likely to be covered by either the regular warranty, or the extra one, or am I going to face trouble with them? What can I push?

I have to take it back tomorrow because they scheduled getting me a habitation certificate, so I was planning on asking them about these issues at the same time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Getting wrapped next month, looking forward to sharing pictures with you, mean while, here's my fleet :)..

Your van is a T6.1 T32. The T6.1 bit means it is a later version of the T6, with a different front end, dash and different electrical systems among other things. The T32 bit is all about it's payload capacity, or load rating as you might hear it called. There are different variants within the T6/T6.1 range, you've got T26, T28, T30, T32. The higher the number, the larger the load rating. Simply put, you can have a max van weight of 2.6 tonnes if it's a T26, up to 3.2 tonnes if it's a T32.

As for what's covered under warranty, I suspect as a car dealership, rather than a campervan dealership, that they might only normally cover the base vehicle and not the conversion, but it all depends on the type of business they are in general. If the clutch is slipping then that should be covered in my opinion, but I guess it really depends on what the written warranty document says.

If I were you, I would still ask them to rectify the camper issues and see how you get on. Others will give better advice on where you stand legally, but I would try and get them to sort it out of good will. If they are a decent and approachable company then they should sort it out. They've sold you a camper van at the end of the day, it's not too much to expect the camper parts to do what they should.

yes by design. mine is a significant "stick" requiring a heavy touch to get past it. I have to say under normal driving I have very rarely had to go past the stop to the point I didn't realise it was there for the first couple of months of ownership
 
Clutch would mot likely be wear and tear and be excluded from most aftermarket warranties.

You're within 6 months of purchasing the vehicle, so provided you paid reasonable market value for the vehicle (ie, you didnt buy it for scrap, etc) the dealer is legally responsible for rectifying any faults unless they made you aware of those daults beforehand and you agreed to accept them as oart of the contraft to buy.

If he can claim off the warranty, fine - if he can't that's his problem, not yours, as any faults within 6 months are legally presumed to have either been present or developing at the point of sale. It's all in the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
 
Be firm with them. They'll give all sorts of reasons to try and squirm, but CRA2015 is quite clear.

Also if you're within 28 days of purchase you can simply reject the vehicle and return it, less a fee for any use you may have had. Of course, some folk successfully argue that if the seller had made the faults known prior to sale they wouldn't have turned a wheel in mileage so should be penalised upon return, and court have sided with that argument on occasion.
 
I've not noticed my T-cross pedal sticking yet? Then again I'm very light footed ;)
I've never actually "needed" to push my foot down all the way, and I don't actually notice a difference in performance when I do... so maybe you've just never tried? I only noticed because my seat was too far forward :D

The accelerator pedal has a deliberate 'extra bit' you can push when you are feeling angry. Doesn't do anything anyway. Tested with Carista and the extra push doesn't register on it. Also - not noticed any difference at all when driving.
It is a 'feature'.
There is a post somewhere on the forum about how to get rid of it - but not much point in going through the aggro.
 
If your vehicle has a speed limit mode as part of the Cruise Control, then the extra travel at the end of the pedal move (aka past the sticky bit) allows you to temporarily override the limiter e.g. for an overtake.
