Water ingress

Just been out to the van and it appears that I have a leak

Opened the drivers door and the wheel arch lump by the accelerator pedal was wet, looks to be dripping out from behind the dash, putting my head up behind the obd port and it’s wet up there.

Seems to be coming out of here where the cream and black join

Any ideas where it could be from?

Haven’t changed anything recently it does have roof rails but they have never leaked before and they have been on for 4 years.
Perhaps it’s crying cause you’ve not done anything recently, love your van lol

when you fixed your rails did you tiger seal them as well as bolt them? perhaps water has found its way in somehow?

Also, check all the protrusions into the engine bay on the drivers side and the vent well drains. I had this on a. T5, Loads of leaves and scrap had solidified and water wasn't running out where it should.
I mention this because it was dripping down by the pedals rather than on the left where the air con outlet was.

I did use silicon on the roof rail bolts so unless that has deteriorated they should be ok.

Does anyone know if I deed to remove the wiper plastic cover to see or check any drainage in the engine bay?

if it were me, id re-seal them anyway but use tiger seal instead of silicone, and maybe some rubber washers to complete the seal.... I've always maintained that silicone is ok for bathrooms, but unless its high modular (the really vinegary smelling stuff) its only going to have a limited lifespan...... I made the silly mistake of sealing a classic mini sunroof with silicone, didn last long - and yes definitely check the drainage trays as I pointed out in my last post that's where the issue lay for me. Also check anything that protrudes through the engine bulkhead into the cab...both sides incase the issue is on the left, but making its way right. Out of interest....where you normally park your van, is it on a slope to the right? or anything like that?

It’s parked on my drive which is pretty much level, I’ll have to try and find the drainage points and check they are clear. Maybe I’ll try hitting the roof rails with the hose pipe and try to pin point where it’s coming in

Half the trouble with sealing joints with either silicone or polyurethane sealants is that people don't apply them correctly. You must not tighten up fully until the sealant has set - it forms a gasket which it cannot do when the joint is tightened up fully on uncured sealant, all that does is squeeze it all out of the joint.

Huzzah finally, don’t you just love it when someone puts on sealer and then squeezes it all out straight away lol

I have seen it so often, a fitting bedded on sealant with this thick ring of sealant all squeezed out around the edge. The seal hold for a while but soon it is back to square one and it leaks again. Impatience is often the reason followed by not understanding what the mechanics of the seal involve.

Oh are you meaning to say that flapping lip of sealant round the outside is not the seal lol

I did mine yesterday, and you need to take the wiper arms off to clean them out. You could peek through the grille to see how bad they are and pour some water on the windscreen. It should appear from the back and sometimes the front of the wheel arches. Pics here.

I covered my scuttle in Dynamat recently and it was rather surprising how much leaf litter etc find its way into the side areas and gets into the side drains.

If you’re planning on cleaning out the scuttle it’s worth sound proofing at the same time as the cleaning is a major part of the job.

This may sound a bit simple but worth a look, I started getting the same problem from the same place quite badly, I had to have a towel there to try and catch it. Nothing had been changed, no replacement windows etc,. Tried looking all over and in the end I found that the large door rubber shown in your picture had slightly come away right at the top of the door frame from in the middle, just pushed it back up and the problem has gone away so far (and we have had some really good rain falls since then) so I think it may have been tracking down from there.
