Well just drove from lands end to Cardiff then to bath and back avg mpg according to mfd is 26ish mpg did a steady 70-80ish van was empty both ways, it drove like a dream really impressed with how it covered the miles and I got out the other end fresh as a daisy! Had one little mishap in bath drove into the car park well under the 1.8mtr barrier ask the attendant how much clearance I had she replied at least 6" so took it I'd be ok drove up the first three levels no problem got to the fourth and heard a crunch!!!! Could not beleave it!!! Ended up having to close the car park and I had to reverse all the way back to the ground floor! Nightmare!

Oh no, hope they are paying to get it sorted! At least it wasn't the roof or tailgate.

Ouch!
although that barrier in the first photo is set above 1.8m despite what it may say! you should have a decent case for them paying for the repairs.

Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle.

The T6 has a height of 1990mm unladen

Oh blimey, what a pisser. I'd be absolutely rancid. Felling for you buddy.

Yeah will be calling them in the morning. It's my first big van always had coupes or pickups before so never had a problem with height I was thinking to my self when I was waiting in the que to enter the car park that the bar seemed a little high but just took it for granted that's what it must be!? Plus I saw a t5 parked half way up so thought it must be alright all that going through my head plus the attendant waving me through I took it I was good to go ! Well I know now!!

Simple point being is that you passed under the barrier with ease. How can it not be representative of the actual clearance. Some donkey needs to be strung up for not being able to set the barrier height correctly.

Sorry to hear this has happened. If you are running at stock height then it's rare you will get into any multi storey. My car park at work is closing in January and we have all got to park in the multi storey. I am 0.2 inches too tall! This means I have no where to park unless I pay on another car park (the company font have to provide parking contractually for me!) and would have to pay £500 per year elsewhere. It looks like the van will be on the drive and I will be catching the bus!

That T5 might of been on air ride or lowered springs. At least it was only the rear spoiler you were very lucky! Fingers crossed the car park pays for the repair. Always a good idea to put your max height on the underside of sun visor so you have a quick reference.

Can you lower your van with lower springs??

Do you think if you didn't have the rear spoiler you would of got away with it? Mind you you could of really damaged the actual roof if that had touched! Good luck and hope you get a result. Keep us posted.

@Gadgets Yeah I reckon, it was just the second to last level it all went wrong funny how the other 3 levels it went up fine ? You would have thought each level height would of been the same right the way through ?

Problem is they have pipes that stick down, I hit one with a roof rack on my 4x4 once so have been aware since.

Could lower van but not sure I want to leave it in there anyway. I am looking at a cheap polo to drive to and from work but begrudges me as its money I could spend on the van or my 66 bug!

I had a close shave with our old tropie, the issue was going from the slope to the flat and vise versa with a long vehicle, you need more height to cater for the diagonal maximum.

We bought a "beater" (2006 Subaru Outback on 75k miles) for our mucky, narrow country lanes and it's been great; keeps the miles off the other two cars, its narrow so fits through most gaps and it's a hoot off road too; can't say it's the cheapest thing to service, insure and tax but I'm really glad we got it.
Of course having three vehicles does invoke some raised eyebrows but we love cars/vans so it sort of makes sense.

Well I am not sure what to do as the whole point of selling my T5 and having the T6 for a daily was to save some money as with the beetle sat on the drive we were back up to 3 cars, a bus and a motorbike. Dropped down to 2 cars a van and bike but now I would be defeating the justification to have the new T6. Not sure what to do.
