Where to put valuables?

Seems Kiravans do one for a single passenger seat...

Not sure how much you'd fit under a single seat though.

I’ve got a safe under my passengers single captains seat.
It was already fitted when I bought the van so can’t help with where it’s from or how much.
You can fit laptops inside it.

I wouldn't leave a laptop in the van during hot weather, you might return to a burnt out wreck.

Maybe I’ve just got lucky because I’ve routinely left my laptops and iPads and in the van when the inside temperature has been in the 40s without any major issues. Did once have both phone and Kindle force shutdowns due to heat on a beach on Ile d’Oleron but that was because it was very, very hot and my rucksack was sitting in direct sunlight.

Well, they state not to do it. At the least it damages the batteries and shortens their lifespan (oxidisation). Thermal runaway is definitely a thing with lithium ion batteries.

While away from Van, is there anything available to safely put stuff like laptops, iPads etc ?

Number two does not approve of laptops being left on display number 6. I am wondering if the front door side pockets care sufficiently long enough to slide a lap top in and held by Velcro or a strap. If they where bagged in a material of a similar colour to the inside door then they would be out of the view from prying eyes/

John Drake or should we call yo number 6?. I do not have a number, I am a free man! Be seeing you. :cautious:

Have you got a lithium based leisure battery system in your van? Maybe not but there are thousands of us that do and haven't yet had our vans explode or burn down to the rims and some of those thousands actually live in very hot climates as well (and they also use mobiles, tablets and laptops).

I would also add to my earlier post that I have an out of sight place to stash my devices when we're away from the van and a keypad safe for smaller valuables fixed in a cupboard which even if the cupboard door is opened is not obvious.

Having posted all that, I've probably tempted fate in all sorts of unpleasant ways.

Lithium LBs use LiFePO4 chemistry, which is chemically very stable and unlikely to suffer thermal runaway. However, I believe @gilesjuk was referring to the Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries found in laptops and mobiles, and those are significantly more susceptible.

@Bav. Every day's a school day (thanks) but I suspect I'll carry on leaving the stuff in the van and hope for the best (or forget about it and be surprised when the whole lot goes up in flames and regard it as an 'upgrade opportunity'.

If you know, you know :) be seeing you

When my daily drive was a soft top Land Rover Defender there was nowhere secure! I used to use a PacSafe wire mesh net thing to attach bags to the roll cage and also had one of their portable safes for smaller valuables.
