I'm swapping out my driveshaft... Again. I did use the genuine spline grease last time but I remember it was quite pricey from the dealer. Is it best to use the genuine stuff or can I use some moly or cv grease from Halfords or an auto parts store? I do have a LOT of copper grease but am I correct in thinking I can't use that?

Thank you!

No don't use copper grease. Get some ceramic grease (often called ceramic brake grease).
I'm sure I have some of that kicking around actually. Is that the stuff that's normally red?

Edit: nevermind, that's red rubber grease lol.

Il pick some up. Thanks for your reply

Yeah red rubber. Just to double check, for the splines you mean the bit that goes through the wheel bearing/hub? If so, all good, crack on

No I mean the part that butts onto the stubshaft in the gearbox

Ah apologies I misunderstood. I was just checking the service manual but my PDF seems to be corrupt :(

Ok just checked and the VW universal grease is part number G 060735 A2 a quick search seems to suggest that it could be lithium grease, however molyb grease would be fine and cheaper than VWs prices
