Wired Apple CarPlay Issue

I know there have been a few discussions on here about this before, but I am yet to find the solution.

I have the Alpine 705d fitted which is integrated with the factory USB connection on the dash of my T6, which all worked fine with my iPhone 13 Pro. Since I got an iPhone 15 Pro and use a USB A to USB C lead it intermittently drops out or sometimes doesn’t connect at all. I have tried various premium cables (sadly there is no official Apple A to C cable). It can last for an hour or so and then randomly lose the connection or simply not connect at all from start up, there is no pattern to it at all.

I know the head unit has wireless CarPlay but I much prefer a wired connection for the sound quality and as I am tied to a contract with Vodafone through work and their coverage isn’t great. I never had the issue with my old 13 Pro using USB A to lightning cable.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I had similar and had to go direct to the head unit without going through a dash adapter:

I’ve got issues too which I’ll add here to see if it’s of any use to you or anyone else.

Mine’s an aftermarket head unit and I had successfully used 13 pro and 14 pro for two years via a usb-c adapter plate that I installed in the dash, which connected to the female usb at the back of the head unit. The 15 won’t work at all going that route so I’ve had use a single USB-A > USB-C cable straight through to get it to work.

BUT

Wife’s phone is a 13 which is lightning instead of USB-C. So I found a USB-C>lightning end cap adapter. This works, but over time my wife’s phone draws too much power and the head unit demands it is disconnected. This never happened when the same phone was connected to the same head unit via a USB-A to Lightning cable.

So…

Currently I’ve got a Belkin USB-A > lightning cable plus and an Apple branded Lightning > USB-C adapter (which specifically says is CarPlay compatible) sat on the kitchen side waiting til next week to install and I’ll feed back. The theory being the USB-C power handshaking needs to be managed by the Apple adapter.

Thanks, that's interesting - shame not to be able to use the existing USB on the dash but it sounds like your option might do the trick - where do you run the lead out to the iPhone through the dash?

I 3D printed a dash blank with a slot in it. I’ll take a photo when I get chance.

Here you go. I could have painted it to match perfectly but by eye it’s so nearly the same. The camera makes it look more different than it really is.
