It doesn’t need a new timing belt, spend the money on diesel and go and enjoy your van.

2018 Crafter cambelt change & wont start

Recently the cambelt went on my 2018 2.0tdi crafter. The belt had not completely snapped, it had frayed on one edge and the part that came off seemed to get jammed up. The head of the engine has been off and to the mechanics shock there is no bent valves or broken rockers. Everything within the...

    Cam Belt Change requirement

At my current usage it would take me 46 years and I would be well and truly gone before then, as I would have to reach the age of 120. John

    Low power going uphill

Hi, I have 65 plate T6, diesel Bluemotion and it’s having trouble going uphill? The accelerator doesn’t seem to have full power? It’s had the cambelt/water pump done on 50k and now on 66k.It’s not due a service for another 6000k approx. It’s been brilliant until this last week, just doesn’t feel...

Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

If you like the van, ask 700 pounds off to offset the cost of replacing the cambelt and have your dad replacing it.

Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

I'm sure I've read that VW will match indi prices if the quoting garage is within a certain distance of the dealer - worth asking if they will match the price

Total loss of power and flat battery

Has the garage that looked at it given you any prices to fit a replacement engine? Or rebuilding the one you have?

About to pull the trigger on a used AA van

It's overdue a cambelt if it hasn't had one already, VW UK say it should have a new cambelt at 4 years regardless of mileage, or 5 years if you live in continental Europe.

    Front crank shaft seal leaking

I don't have the All In extended warranty, they covered it under parts warranty/VW good will. Also had the cambelt and pump changed @ ~£480. Made sense while they had it apart.

    Cam Belt Change requirement

Yes you are right I did not word the question correctly and was not specific - how many years would people leave before changing the cambelt regardless of mileage?

Thinking of upgrading my van, prices seem to have gone mad

I agree with @DaveD - I'm not at all mechanically-minded, but even I'd more than likely skip over any ad for a 6-year old van that hadn't had the cambelt replaced.

Intermittent Long Crank (randomly once/twice a day)

Hopefully the garage can check this when it’s in for the cambelt. Really frustrating as only had the van a couple of weeks

Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

Then what about the water pumps and alternator belts that we replaced at the same time as they were 'service items' and likely to fail before 8 year cambelt change? When do we replace these now?

    Header tank and silica bags

Mine was changed in 2021 with the EGR, so I’ll change in 2026 to retain the corrosion protection.
