I think they are all the same now. It’s a well known issue and they are all trying to fob the customers off with extended warranties and most likely only helping the ones in original warranty.

Out of warranty yet? Extended warranty? First thought was low battery or starter motor getting iffy. Has it still got the original battery? Had the battery tested at all? - any problems starting after a few days?

Isn’t the official name a front crankshaft oil seal? That’s pretty poor if VW exclude that specifically on the all in warranty. Especially as they do cover it on the extended warranty.

Is the van still under warranty (normal or extended VW) ? If yes I’d be using OEM parts. If out of warranty just use a Bosch one - I got my service parts incl diesel filter, charcoal cabin filter from Murray’s Direct on ebay - great service!

My van is under the extended warranty scheme. It failed its MOT due to a damaged tyre. The dealer made no attempt to sell me a tyre or steer me towards any other work. I took the van to my local tyre shop and returned the van to the dealer the following week for a retest. No problem.
