been an active browser on this forum since the purchase of a 2019 T6 t32 Indium Grey DSG Kombi. Good spec with lots of add-ons including auxiliary and parking heaters, driver assist, side assist etc. Couldn’t overly see the point in these but wow how great are they?
anyway my questions are around VW Servicing, customer care and warranty. Current mileages approaching 49,000
the previous owner had the extended service package and paid it up in full before sale to me which should now stay with the vehicle and transfer to me. Emailed VW Finance and waiting on a response within 14 days. This gave me some piece of mind when purchasing but now does not sound as attractive as it perhaps should be.
I am assuming i will have left:
extended warranty…… still got 12 months left to May 2024
servicing…….One major left, 54,000?
MOTs…… two left May 23 and May 24
My questions are:
1) What should I expect at the 54k service? I have already ascertained that the DSG oil should of been changed at 40k but was not done and is apparently not included in the ”inclusive service package” which I find bizarre given it is a VW service scheduled item. The local dealer wants £250 which I guess I am going to have to stump up? Anyone had this included in servicing package? I have read that they class a service as just engine so assume they do nothing apart from oil and filter change ie no checking or greasing of hinges for example.
2) Already had email about timing belt and water pump, again is this something I am going to have to factor in at the next service which in theory should be inclusive? Or do I put it off for 12 months and then get trusted local garage to sort once warranty is over?
3) MOT….Shall I be expecting the usual “you need new pads and discs all round”. Is the MOT their opportunity to take ones pants down. I have checked discs and pads and they are all currently fine and within wear limits. For the sake of £35 probably sack off the 2024 inclusive MOT anyway
4) VW Leicester currently quoting late June (others seem similar) to get booked in which includes the MOTs…..that is not very good. They confirmed that they are short staffed. Very defensive bordering on aggressive lady at Leicester Service Ctr basically saying go somewhere else and that MOTs are not included in the package which my paperwork clearly says they are. Can’t do anything until VW confirm name change anyway, but again for the sake of £35 I am thinking I would rather stay local than travel all over the midlands costing my precious time and fuel. I wonder however if VW “could“ use this as an excuse to void a warranty.
So is service and warranty package worth the paper its written on?
If I go off piste will this void the next 12 months warranty?
financially probably better to pay for next service, dsg oil and timing belt/water pump and still have change from what VW will charge…..again where will I stand with warranty?
Can not believe gearbox oil change is not included given it is clearly a scheduled service item.
If I leave the timing belt for another year will they again use this as an excuse, I have read the posts around the 4 or 5 year /120k recommendation but nothing definitive?
Is there anything I should specifically check before warranty runs out in 2024 eg weaknesses, areas for oil leaks etc
This is the first relatively new motor I have purchased and by far the most coin I have ever dropped. I have previously had a number of 4x4 and lastly a T5. All fairly basic and I could tackle a lot of the mechanicals and servicing myself….I am now in different territory which to date does not feel comfortable.
Any help or advice you experienced members can offer would be greatly appreciated
Also any recommendations of alternative service providers in the Leicester area that come with good customer care recommendations
Thanks in advance
