    T6.1 12v Socket Switched Live

First up if you have a LB installed, you need to figure where the 12v sockets are actually powered from. Starter or leisure battery. (Pictures too - we love pictures!)

    Towing electrics ex RAC

Ideally fuse it by the charger slightly lower than the fuse at the starter battery end. The OE setup uses 100A at the starter battery end and 80A at leisure battery end. This way of the worst happens it should be the easy to reach fuse by the leisure battery that goes first, rather than the one...

Flat battery after 3 days parked up.

...it was the original battery then it may just be age, AGM batteries don't last much more than 5-6 years. Generally, with no driving, a starter battery will last 2 weeks before needing a top up charge. Presumably we're talking about the starter battery, not leisure battery? As above, take a...

    Battery Ah size recommendations

...a straight swap, just cutting plugs off and joining, but there is an extra wire (white) which I believe is something to do with the starter battery. I think the CBE charges the starter once the leisure battery is full. I don't think the IP65 can switch between battery profiles so I won't be...

New battery - control panel lights

Hi, No the battery is in a cupboard at the middle / back - the wire appears eat the starter battery so was hoping to connect it somewhere there.

Advice - charging battery when not in use.

Eventually, the way to go is solar on the roof & a maintainer feeding from the leisure battery to the starter battery.

The dreaded flashing coil light, G580

All of the "car" electronics that work off of the ignition work from the starter battery. It's not a good idea to use these systems without the engine running. In most straightforward leisure systems nothing will charger the starter while on EHU - so all the usage of the normal courtesy lights...

    Basic no-leisure battery setup

Thanks for this roatripper. I’m thinking of tapping in to the fuse box under the passenger seat as my loads will be very low.

Please help me - how to use camper plug sockets?

But if the van can start (ie not dead starter battery) then why does the inverter not work if its wired to the starter battery? @Alexryc. You're probably not too far from me (Jnc23 M6) and would be happy to take a look if you want to drive over sometime.

    Battery Ah size recommendations

I've just checked again, the starter battery light is no longer flashing either plugged in or not. My only concern now is that the white wire also acts as a switch for the main 12v distribution board to use mains rather than battery, and that with this not being connected I might always be on...

    Dellmassive`s Camper Van Adventure

yes, looking back to the original sketch here : Dellmassive`s Camper Van Adventure ill have a quick disconnect on the starter battery , and the leisure battery. so ill be able to connect to either just by plugging it in. i have a few Victron IP22 & IP65 chargers that i can use, but...

Recommendations for Leisure to Starter Trickle Charger

Another vote for the Ablemail. I fitted one when I did a leisure battery upgrade and it is brilliant. Fit and forget. Has kept my ailing starter battery running fine. It is really simple to fit, just 3 wires, so definitely worth looking to do yourself.

Got an Ablemail AMT12-2? - How did you wire it?

@Skyliner33 Thats a midi fuse block that I added myself, from the starter battery feed that comes up under the passenger seat base.

Leisure Battery from scratch on 66' T6

...THQ) This is only for some LED lighting and some USB charger points. I would be grateful to hear what exactly I need to run this. Wanting to be able to use power but not drain the starter battery. Finished van will be a Day van set up, carpet lined with a rock n roll style bed. Thanks James

    Solar Panel no controller

Your starter battery will only ever charge to 80% to leave headroom for regenerative charge from breaking. It’s not uncommon for it to sit at 12.3v

VW T5.1 2.0 CAAC Long Crank / Starting Issues?

Update on this... Starter motor eventually gave way after it cranked for ages one morning. Local garage changed the starter motor (used a lucas OEM one) and its now starting much quicker BUT it still does have a 2-3 second crank if left for a while, nothing like the 15-20 seconds it was...

No continuity between main battery +ve and OEM split charge relay. Could it be this cable?

Yep just put it in place of the relay, that gives you a high current feed from the starter battery and a charge signal.

Which side of the Regony Shunt 300 should my solar panel negative go please?

Problem is now after disconnecting leisure battery from vehicle chassis and only to shunt B-, is that the starter battery ALT+ is only showing +8v. The only way to get a charge from the ALT+ is to connect the B- on the shunt to chassis.

    Battery Ah size recommendations

Further update to this..... I was away in the van over the weekend hooked up. All okay other than the starter battery symbol started flashing again. The panel reading on the starter battery was 12.0v this dropped to 11.9 as we were about to set off home. The van started okay however. I got one...
