Well, I've just replaced the 6000K with 5000K, still with the same 55W ballasts.
Much better, less blue and a lot brighter.
No flicker or warning lights.
Not the same on the H1 LEDs, monstrously bright, but start engine and they flicker and produce a lamp out warning..
At least my dips...
dubber - I didn't try as there is plenty of room behind the unit - my ballasts are fitted to the inner wing - I will post a piccie tomorrow if it helps
...are all the same.
My bulbs came from internet, but they have metal bases and ceramic inserts, so better quality than the Car Rover items.
The Car Rover ballasts are happy on the T6, so I would just change the bulbs?
My ballasts are hung on little rubbers from the front bulkhead.
Good luck
...of the fitting - is it because the replacement LED lens is bigger (35mm diameter) than the H4 so it would foul on the reflector?
3. Can the ballast pack be fitted in behind the headlight in the housing or does it absolutely have to go inside the headlight and behind the reflector?
4. Does the...
You have always been able to buy HID conversions as a replacement 'bulb' and inline ballast.
You are probably thinking of the retro fit projectors that screw into the bulb hole in a reflector headlight.
The Recovery industry ( RAC AA ete ) had a habit of fitting really heavy duty rear springs . If you still have these in the ride will be bad
Put a set of T 30 rear springs and some spring distance spacers to tweak the height to where it needs to be , You will be much...
I changed all the bulbs for LEDs and ordered extra bright red LEDs (from AliExpress) for the brake lights so works brilliantly now, no issues with warning lights as I have a 2007 T5
Very cheap conversion to do, and apparently the LEDs are canbus compatible so maybe won’t throw up faults for...
Fitted these on Friday, great beam pattern, had to cut out rear of cover & extend it about 10mm to clear fan.
Also had to fit ballast to stop slight flicker.
Well worth the effort.
Cheers
Sorry I can't offer you a solution but if it helps, the "odd silver boxes on the lights" might well be resistors or ballasts, commonly fitted to prevent aftermarket LED "bulbs" flickering.
I used the Car Rover kit off Amazon.
Great amount of light, no dazzle and the bulbs heat up in a couple of seconds.
I fixed the ballasts to the bulkhead and cable tied the wires together and to the bulkhead, didn't hide anything, it's in the engine bay, waterproofed and safe.
...but, it arrived and I’m impressed with the quality. All wires are nice and tidy, there are grommets for the rubber dust caps and the ballast boxes look good quality.
I fitted the ballasts to the rear of the headlight unit using double sided sticky foam as the cable ties supplied were...
Here is one of my lights before I fitted it.
You'll see that I've tidied up the original wiring and mounted the ballast under the housing and the other resistor thing to the side.
It saves it all just floating around behind the light.
Hopefully I've shaded the components and where I've...
No photo but the Evitek ones I have fit inside and allow the cover to be refitted, I used some sticky velcro pads to mount the ballast box inside the headlight shell.
In the Seven, they fit behind the headlight bowl inside the chrome shell, same method of restraint.
...outside minus the rain!
However, the jury is still out...
1. To fit the driver's side it looks like a big job, airbox or bumper off.
2. The ballast is too big to fit inside the back of the housing, so I'll need the whole headlight out to test where it can be housed.
3. The cover does fit...
How did you fix your LED ballast in? Mine came with zip ties to secure them to something or other, but I've just wedged them in a place inside the light where they don't rattle when I give it a good shake.
Thanks guys, 5000k bulbs ordered and should be here by the weekend. I don’t have Vcds access so guess will have a bulb warning light to start with but sure I can sort that at some stage..

I test-fitted the passenger side on the van but to fit the ballast you need to remove the headlights from the van.
I started by fitting Osram LEDs for the DRLs:
I did a comparison of Osram and Philips...
