Thanks, I have asked the supplier the question, I did state I was using a dimmer when I ordered a kit from a forum member (not a great experience) so I hope they are or I will add that to the lessons learnt log!
...side I just moved my battery to one side and on the drivers side I took to top off the air filter making access a doodle.
I mounted the ballast and controllers off a bolt on the inside of the wing.
If it were not for the off fuse issue I had, 30 mins top.
No light-out error displayed on the...
Has anyone fitted an HID kit to the THQ V2's yet ?, I find the dipped beam output to be a shade poor and am considering fitting one ( if I can find somewhere to stick the ballasts ), it made one hell of a difference to my old 5.5 passat .

Maybe, but I've seen cheap ballasts do some serious damage to car looms, would like to think if you pay a bit more you'd get slightly better quality kit.
...More than I was hoping to spend but I suspect if you waited you could save a bit more? The headlamps themselves are expensive and the levellers but as I figured these were the bits you’d see and or likely to wear so I wanted new. However the ballast packs on eBay aren’t much more new over used.
...LEDs and they do look smart...
As for retrofit, I'm about to do it on my T6, but with the T6.1 I'd imagine all the parts will be VW / Valeo, ballast packs my be interchangeable with existing VW models? Pauly will have a list I'm sure. But more to the point who is going to be first to...
...height difference must mean somthing is hitting after a certain low point? Hence causing the knocking/rattling. My next step s to put some ballast (mates) in the back and see if the mechanic was right, now I just need some willing volunteers. I did have another thought after seeing a utube...
...yet as I've had a plan. I'm going to make a relayed loom that takes a trigger from one of the original headlight plugs, and supplies the HID ballasts with a stable 12V. Just like how you would wire up a pair of spot lights. The van will/should think that the bulbs have blown, so should...
Price depends on which projector, ballast, bulb combination you go for. If you speak to Trup he'll give you the options and is a wealth of knowledge on the subject.
In theory it's not good for the MOT but yet to hear of any failing.
I'd originally looked at the aftermarket units offered with the...
Yes, that is the same CANBUS adaptor I tried (and returned) too. I figure that if I can work out the power consumption when the lights are on, then I can work out the parallel resistance needed and make my own ballast.
plus, and i forgot to mention, towing eye weight on the caravan is 45kg - it is already at 45 kg without the bike/rack added. This means I need to to get 45kg of ballast to the rear of the caravan to balance this out - not a problem coming home (extra beer) but pain in the b*m on the way out.
...yes and no answer.
Yes, the bulb itself from the HID kit is a straight swap....
....but no, because you have to find somewhere to put the ballast, canbus resistor etc, the stuff you see in the image a few posts ago.
As @dubber36 has said above, it's much easier to fit all that lot tidily...
...and taking the time to report back. I just bought the car rover hid canbus 55w kit but annoyingly at 6000k- would you recommend I send these back and order the 5000k? Have you got install tips/pics of where you fitted the ballast etc? I’m going to try take this on at the weekend.. thanks in...
@dubber36 I think the comment about not being a 5 minute job was down to your link showing what is obviously not an H7 based lamp but a lamp, ballast and projector lens ready to be mounted into an headlight encloure somehow.
I agree fitting a conventional Hid discharge lamp with an H7 lamp base...
...swapped my Phillips LEDs for Twenty20 ones this morning. The job was easier than I expected it to be. The hardest part was fishing out the ballast that the Phillips bulbs need. Access isn't too bad, but aided by removing the top of the air box.
First impressions are that the beam pattern is...
If you’re fitting the HID kit as a whole for the first time it will be much easier to do so with the lights out. Once the ballasts etc are in place, changing a bulb is a faff but it is do-able with the lights in situ. You’ll probably find it will take about the same length of time to take the...
