New wheels on Monday.....
With apologies to Duran Duran.
Switched from staggered LV 20's to a set of 18 inch Wolfrace Voodoo's, with 255/55 tyres. Brother in law is overjoyed, as he lusted after the 20's.
Cheers
Mark
Hey all,
I was looking for some opinions on a front assist unavailable error I am getting on my T6.1. I recently had the van converted to a Kombi and hadn't driven it much before this so I am unsure if the issue was there before as it only starts when driving over bumpy/poorly surfaced roads...
I ended up taking the 255's off as did a lot of motorway miles and they were just a bit big, I now have a set of Avon AX7's in 235/55/18 which I would say are the perfect mix of offroad looks / on-road comfort.
Thanks for the info, appreciated... I was under the impression I need 103's, so a 101 load rating does open it up for tyre choice. The van currently sits on 20x 8.5's 245x45s 103s on front and 20x9.5" 275x40s on 106's at the back and sits/looks/handles well. I'll look at 101's and see what's...
I have for sale a set of 4 Michelin Primacy 3 tyres in 235/55 r18 load rated at 104, I purchased these and I had them on my vehicle for approximately 3-4 weeks and did approximately 100 miles in that time, but I decided to change to 255/45 r18 tyres instead.
£350 collection from Dagenham RM8.
255/55/19 is huge in Transporter terms, it would result in approx 10% increase in gearing over factory wheel /tyre combinations and a proportionate reduction in braking power. Your speedo would read miles out too. (under read)...
I started with our T28 camper by going to B14s and that was possibly where I should have stopped as the difference in handling was far more predictable in corners losing all of the chaos ie lurching, crashiness and unpredictable rebounding when potholing.
I did have 18" wheels with 2555518...
Thanks - the AX7 are one of the more road focused tyres I've seen talked about but just haven't been able to find any objective info on them, so this is helpful. They certainly look the part. Did Bognor fit them for you as well? I might have to ring them about wheel options as well. I'm not sure...
235/55/18 is already quite a larger diameter tyre, and going to 255/55/18 will increase that diameter by another 22mm I think, and put the speedo out by a further 3% according to willtheyfit
255/55/18 vs your existing set up of 245/45/18 is roughly double the difference I’ve quoted above
Aye I’ve been all through the wheel/tyres dilemma since buying my van last year. She’s a T32 so - adhering to load ratings - I need a 103 which really limits choice. You don’t btw: yours is a T30 you said is you can use 101 and above. Which at least opens up the option of sticking to 20” and...
255 45 R18 is the correct size - 2555518 will put the wheel diameter at 737.7mm OD, which would give a speedo error of 6-7% (at 28mph you'll actually be doing over 30 etc) I'm running 255 45 18's (Uniroyal Rainsport 5's) and they're perfect.
Was getting up to 48 mpg on the stock 16s. - on a long motorway run! Haven’t done that with this set up yet. The speedo is definitely out (I checked on willtheyfit.com I’d imagine your 18 set up is a larger diameter than my originals were) I’m doing 60mph at about 58mph on the speedo. Waze helps...
Thanks Danny,
Your reply was a lot of help. Do you put the 235/60s on the rear wheels?
So if I’m correct, the 255/55s will not rub if I use spacers? I have seen a few people on here stating that they “will not rub under any circumstances” on standard suspension. That’s what makes the subject...
