    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Fully agree. Then you will see the aluminium ppm drop and if the Fe content remains in normal levels. As the Aluminium level is still fairly low, I think the failure is at the early stages and should recover well if you sort it now.

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Absolutely. They have nothing to do with each other. The DPF filters out particle matter (PM). This is the soot produced when diesel is combusted. EGR or no EGR the engine will always produce PM. The DPF collects this PM over time and when is starts to block, the ECU triggers a DPF...

Hi there. How do you test the DPF soot levels please?

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Sounds like a stupid question but am looking at a mint 4MOTION T32 DSG 180. Build Dec 2016. Thanks, that is not too bad.

Mine has these too, I fitted the kit from Darkside Developments plus a Tafmet. I put an engine cover on so it's not that obvious. I'm hoping it's not spotted by an MOT tester, but if it is, I guess I will need to do the same and put the original pipes back on with thin blanking plates. So long...

    Healthy 180 CFCA owners?

Thanks. Would a replacement Rev D cooler be wise before any blanking off activity? Just ordered a Millers Oils analysis kit as current oil has been in the engine for a few thousand miles.

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Are you asking the same questions as before? The Tafmet kit is a cheap, easy and reliable solution. Get yourself a Miller oil analysis kit from Opie Oils. Buy a small syringe and some plastic tubing that will fit down the dipstick tube from Ebay. The instructions are clear, make sure that the...

...as it lowers the combustion temperature and makes a less complete combustion which naturally makes a bit more PM. My van has been running the Tafmet and EGR blanking for 3500 miles now and I have observed less DPF regenerations, around 2 MPG improvement and (perhaps a placebo effect) a...

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

I have a 180ps with a Rev D EGR, I don’t have any noticable oil consumption, DPF soot levels are very low and no noticeable reduction in power. I have been monitoring with oil analysis and I took the decision to install a Tafmet kit. No issues, recommended to anybody with a 180ps.

    Healthy 180 CFCA owners?

No, if you are blanking off with the Tafmet kit the EGR will be bolted to the engine but totally inactive. In addition the Rev D isn’t a 100% fix.

...action before any real damage done I hope. I see little point in replacing the EGR cooler as these are rubbish and the problem will not go away I have the already the revised D version. Is the Tafmet option the most economical and long term solution or something more drastically expensive...

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

To back-up the advise given by the contributors above, I can confirm prevention is better than cure. I blanked off my EGR and fitted the Tafmet as I was worried that the EGR would soon cause major issues. (Seems EGR will certainly fail, just a matter of when...) I did 897 miles on fresh oil and...

    EGR Delete

I read that the T6 EGRs in the CXEB engines were stainless steel as opposed to aluminium, which were in the T5s. So weren’t susceptible to the engine failure from EGR corrosion. Is that not the case?

...almost corroded through in about three places also if the EGR valve itself is not seated due to fault or carbon build-up you could still be passing exhaust gas into your engine even with the throttle wide open as by fitting the tafmet you have bypassed the engine management system detecting this

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Yes....3 electrical plugs and a set of long reach torx bits will help fit. A bit fiddle but nothing to hard. I installd a tafmet no issues hopefully protect the biturbo 180 engine

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

Cost wise blanking and tafmet is an easy diy job £100ish. Personally no issues with the mot. I don't believe most non main garages would find or be interested. Possibly vw main dealer might be more strict and look for the tafmet.

    2016 180PS Bi-TDi CFCA engine failure

consider which side of the joint are needing sealing. Low pressure will be coming from inlet/exhaust side. I didn't and wouldn't. Big opportunity to drop something inside the oil housing..... It's all fiddly as foook and took me a couple of hours messing about, swear words, dropped tools and...

I blanked my egr and fitted a Tafmet on my 180 cfca, done about 10k mile with it no issues with DPF.

...bolts issue but the bottom of the engine and gearbox is just damp with oil. It cant be the missing 1 or litres though. No oil underneath the van and only a damp patch on the under trays. I'll feel better once the oil analysis done and the Tafmet is fitted. Photo taken yesterday by VW Cordwallis.

...of the old oil. I've done 3x oil changes since January, used Darkside Developments blanking plates and mapped out the EGR. Pros and cons v's Tafmet emulator. All looking good so far with aluminium level back below 'red' levels. Will do one more oil analysis before a major engine + DSG...
