Hi jamesabell. I got the bars from JustKampers (free p&p!) as these had the low profile brackets that required minimal cutting but even then I did need to cut a tiny bit out of the under trays to allow the tray to fit flush around the brackets, but nothing substantial. A dremel worked fine in...

Thule Roof Rack 751/753 Foot or VW roof prep rails

I use these from Van guard, ulti bars, Real easy put on and taken off, only four bolts. Comes with rubber foot pads and have never had and problems with water leaks. Bars sit nice and low to the roof and not much wind noise.

What Roof Rack Do I Need?

It depends what he wants to use it for. Believe it or not, some T6 roof racks are mainly for show and have limited carrying capacity. Others are full on heavy duty for trade use, and may not be what he wants aesthetically. The VW branded roof rack sits between these 2 extremes, with a decent...

Applying Sound Deadening And Insulation In This Great British Weather

Good advice thanks @Grim Reaper it is simple enough to go back and seal them up around the rivnut joint. I use a pressure washer, carefully but its probably a source of water in areas that are not designed for it. The multirail roof bolts are already leaking! Another job on the list. The nice...

    Found Oem Roof Guide Rails

So the roof rack prep rails are off my van and I have all of the fixings except two self tapping pan head screws which fit at the very rear of the rails. I had to refit them to fill the holes. I think they must be drilled in when they do the prep. I have some photos I can upload later if you are...

Which? roof rails for a T6?

The issue seems to be when you remove these original roof bolts to put the rails on. I believe that every PV/ Kombi/ shuttle (maybe caravelle aswell) has these same bolts. The only folks who have discussed water leaks are those that have installed rails.

Transformation Of An Ex Working Van

Thanks, lots of inspiration from other threads on here including yours. Next was to carry on with Silent Coat, but when I went in the van there was a leak on the near side to match the one I fixed. So I took the cross members off the roof rails, unbolted the rear to bolts on the left rail. Then...

Finally taking the plunge, here are a billion questions..

Thus far, no one has mentioned that it might be worth checking that whatever seat/bed and poptop roof combination you're considering will allow (a) enough headroom when the roof is down (b) you can get your feet on the floor (c) does it rattle irritatingly? (d) can you operate it easily and (e)...

Hi guys, Got a little problem. Keep finding puddles in the back of van....would appear its leaking in from where I've fitted the roof bars. So I need to get them off and add some sealant. Attaching roof rails

I've got the roof rails......now all I need are some words of wisdom! I've bought some sikaflex 221 and I was thinking I'd silicon the black plastic "inserts" into the roof channels before I sit the roof rails on them in oder to keep the water from leaking in through the bolt holes.........or...

Which? roof rails for a T6?

Remember to use a good splodge of silicone around the bolt when you anchor them on the roof. A lot of folk have reported how they have had terrible water leaks that have been traced back to the fixings. @Roca had a particularly catastrophic experience and has had to reject his van and order another.

    Awning decisions

If you fit a rail to the existing bolts, you will need an extra sealing washer (water proof), for under bolt heads to avoid leaks, the OE goes underneath the roof rail, or Vicky verky.. It's also an idea to use the plumbers PTFE tape on the bolts threads, wound in the correct direction.. IMHO

Austops Pop Top Install Help! (not installed by Austops BTW who have been brilliant)

Hi, I would like some advice on what to do about a recent install of an Austops pop top T6 SWB. At this point I want to make clear that Austops did not the roof so this thread is no reflection on the Austops roof or the company but looking for guidance on the install. Lots of pictures bellow...

    Sicaflex AND the bolts?

Lots of people have had issues with leaks through the bolt holes after fitting things into factory roof hole fixings so silicone is not a bad idea even if its just minimal amounts to ensure a waterproof seal on the threads

    Leak!

ok after thinking for weeks that it was condensation on holiday, we had heavy rain last night and when I got home from work I opened the sliding door to get my work bag out and all the back seat nearest the door was wet. I thought maybe it was water spray from when I opened the door. When I...
