Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

...for 4 nights in accommodation then we’ve 7 nights to fill. We’ve not decided quite where we’ll go or what we’ll do. The weather and the midges (if they haven’t all died) will shape that part of the adventure. We’re really looking forward to a good break without any illness or other challenges.

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Skye. Camping and caravanning club site, Edinbane, East Portree. The positive? No midges or mozzies. Why? It's blowing a gale and raining hard. Teepee tent up, still up. Fiamma, wound back in, just in case. A true test of family harmony before bedtime! Tomorrow's weather forecast is 40mph winds...

    Scottish Midges

I’ve had several ticks over our years visiting Scotland (we typically go at Easter so midges aren’t a problem) despite using various repellents and tucking trousers into socks. Since finding Smidge I haven’t had any - seems good stuff.

    Scottish Midges

I had a suspected horsefly bite last summer and ended up in hospital overnight on intravenous antibiotics - my leg swelled up and turned a funny colour within a couple of hours and they were worried about sepsis. No more shorts for me no matter how hot it gets!

    Tyres for Nc500

...I was driving past. Oh and I think it was a TINY bit sleety as I was driving on the high section of the A9 between Blair Atholl and Aviemore. April/May and late September/October is by the best months to visit the west coast. The most stable weather, few midges and the best colours in...

    Front window mosquito nets

I can't recommend any mosquito nets but be careful what you buy as something designated 'mosquito net' might not be any good for stopping midges (which are a lot smaller).

I was talking to the locals in Fort William last week about them and they say it's a nightmare. They all said that sprays etc don't work that well, your still getting bit. I'm hoping this job gets done before April in that case!! I'm in Kilmarnock after there, what's the midgie update like for...

Maybe, tbh it's more fitting stuff around it that's the issue. Ha, that's true! Ok, maybe "Scottish summer when you're trapped in your van for 3 days thanks to swarms of man eating midges"

...studs to attach it to the sides and fabric adhesive for the top as the side and top velcro is not strong. The magnetic strip works a treat. Think is was like this one but check the measurements. it allows me to sleep with the door open when i use the drive away awning. Not yet tested on midges

That looks exactly the same as the ones from Lidl - if it is it will not be midge proof. Those little buggers will get through with ease.
