Checking the insulation on a second hand conversion

I'm sure others will provide a more comprehensive answer, but as a starter for 10 I'd tap on the panels from the outside which would give an indication as to whether acoustic insulation has been added. Thermal insulation is possibly harder to identify without removal of a panel.

    Dan’s Van

I'm SO glad I'm not the only one!!! I've literally done exactly that and carpet lined the panels only and kind of feel guilty every now and then for not doing the whole lot, but I kind of like the contrast between the body colour and they fabric colour and as you say: practicality!!! Good on us...

    Windscreen condensation - advice

You need to get an insulated front screen cover.... That should stop that from happening.

    How good is my insulation?

It will partly depend on the colour of the van body, mine is fully insulated including the pop top roof lid but importantly it’s Reflex Silver. If you have a dark coloured van it will be a challenge to keep it cool.

Floor batons height - 9mm seems too high

Are you intending to use any insulation/lining on the bare floor? Some of the builds I looked at used 9mm baton directly on the floor (as you have) and then used sound deadening and/or insulation on the area in-between. The sound deadening is typically 2mm thick and a dense rubbery material...

Fridges & Cold Beer -- How I Done It --

It's a single compressor fridge with an insulated box around the condenser evaporator to use like a traditional "ice box" fridge? How many temperature controls does it have 1 or 2?

Keep OEM rubber load floor or remove and ply line/insulate/sound deaden/carpet floor??

...coming into your vehicle. If you would like to insulate it as well, you can add a closed cell foam as your second layer. Some of the van insulation companies have the product which combines both of mentioned products in one piece. As I said, it is all depends what are you looking for to achieve.

Is this the normal view inside oil filler cap?

I’ve wrapped double bubble double foil insulation around my filler neck and have no mayonnaise at all but I don’t use my van for short journeys. John.

Has anyone used Wickes thermawrap or B&Q’s recycled plastic insulation?

I have part of a roll of the plastic type insulation left over if anyone in the Leeds area wants it. Free obviously.

Has anyone used Wickes thermawrap or B&Q’s recycled plastic insulation?

It's stiff, fixed thickness, not really a thermal insulation. Just sat in the space. Dodo fleece actually fills the space.

    Garmin Rear Dashcam Wiring

it’s a factory Kombi, with factory wiper on the tailgate yes. I’m taking the permanent live from a 12v supply I had put in when I first got the van and had it lined and insulated etc. Other than that there’s nothing extra in the back,

    How good is my insulation?

Sounds normal. Mine sits in the car park at work and easily 40 plus when i open it up with the current weather. Insulation is more for keeping it warm when it's cold outside I think.

Sound Deadening or No Sound Deadening

I used 3M Thinsulate, not cheap I know, in the five conversions that I have done. They were all LWB models with fibreglass high roofs added (except one which was a factory high roof). Thinsulate is both a heat insulator and sound deadener.

    How much will it cost…

If I buy a van that’s in fairly standard trim. How much will it cost me (ballpark) to put nice seats (swivels in front), insulate and line the interior, set of wheels, front bumper, side steps and a roof spoiler ? I’d manage the interior work myself I think cheers

15 mm dodomat liner, with 50 mm fleece roof t6.1

...anyone with succes fit these two together in the roof? Standard ply, carpeted. I'm finding it hard for it to fit. But I need the thermal insulation for arctic winters x( I haven't tried with the longer clips yet. But I can't get the holes to apply in each side because the layer is too thick...

    Diesel heater

From what I’ve read Camperking don’t insulate or sound deaden their vans, it’s well discussed on the Forum. This saves the converter a significant amount of time and money while presenting the same appearance to the customer. I have a fully insulated SWB van, with the windows cracked open 900w...
