Dan’s Van

I’ve been signed up a little while now while having a nightmare experience with a 2018 kombi I brought a couple of months ago which had an ongoing coolant leak. That went back to the dealer I got it from as they still couldn’t resolve the issue after having it back for 2 months.

Thankfully I have ended up with a far nicer spec T6 (all be it a bit harder in the wallet)

Anyway here it is on collection day. I have been busy working on it over the last few weeks since collecting and will add a few more updates in the coming days and beyond as more work happens.

Oris towbar and PF Jones wiring kit fitted the weekend after collection. Still trying to solve a wiring issue with the brake lights after connecting to the wrong red/black wire but hope to solve that soon.

I also decided to black out the front VW badge and crime grill. I know it’s likely not to everyone’s taste but something I quite like.

Have you been out in the dark yet? A headlight upgrade will be high up your list of must haves, especially if that's your Tiguan Allspace with IQ headlights.

Funny you say that Dubber36, Philips RacingVision GT200 bulbs have turned up today and hoping to get them in later today after work. I may look at something like the TransporterHQ units in the future but these will do for now.

As you say huge difference to the Tiguan, which has now gone as the Transporter is its replacement :)

First big upgrade I made came last weekend when I fitted rear windows to the barn doors, Barn doors was never our preferred option but something we could compromise on, A rear window was not however so on with cutting to large holes in the back.

I have to say I am super impressed with the glass and fitting kits from camper glass. A quick watch of their’s and Combe valley campers insulation videos and I was full of confidence

Also blacked out the rear badges.

So fitted the new Philips Racing vision bulbs last night along with Osram night breakers in the fogs and some Philips LEDs in the DLR’s. I popped out this evening and it’s made a big difference, not quite what the Tiguan was like but certainly better.

Having a nightmare with the 5w5 side lights however, everything I try have thrown up an error, have tried some generic Amazon ones I had kicking about, Osram LED and even just popped to Halfords this evening and got some of their led 5w5 bulbs and all show an error.

Anyone have any recommendation that won’t give me an error?

Do what I do and leave them turned off unless it's dark then pop a bit of insulation tape to obscure the fault light on dash.

I haven't had any luck resolving my lights fault. I just ignore it and reset the fault when the MOT is due. I feel like every van is different in resolution to solve this but every van is equally as absurdly sensitive about the lights loom and coding.

Good luck getting it solved and apologies... this was a useless response

PS congrats on the van and subsequent mods. She's a beaut!

Thanks guys. Looks like coding is the route to go anyone near by in Kent with a VCDS looking for few beer tokens

A bit more of an update to share while I am here and catching up.

I had ordered Dodo mat sound deadening, some insulation and everything to carpet interior panels when I had my old van but never got around to doing it thankfully.

Strangely this van seems to have had a factory fitted insulation / sound deadening option. It wasn’t amazing so came out and replaced with the dodo mat stuff and trimmed all the ply panels. I ran out of insulation for the top rear panels so the factory insulation came in handy

I didn’t carpet the rest of the body as this is not going to be a full camper as plan on putting bikes, paddle board and diy materials in the back quite often so want to maintain some of the practicality.

I’m super happy with the results, it’s made it for more refined inside.

I'm SO glad I'm not the only one!!! I've literally done exactly that and carpet lined the panels only and kind of feel guilty every now and then for not doing the whole lot, but I kind of like the contrast between the body colour and they fabric colour and as you say: practicality!!!

Good on us for swerving from the 'norm'!!

If you wanted to go a halfway house ABS wheel arch covers and D pillar trims could look good too. It would mean you could deaden the wheel arches from inside without carpeting them. Not essential but FYI

I had considered the ABS arch covers so I could add deadening to the archeses too but tbh I am pretty pleased with the reduction of noise so far. I didnt realise you can get the D pillar trims though. They are nice especially on the darker trim.

yes im considering them only downside is they are approximately £100. they do finish it off nicely though.

I have the arch covers and fitted 2mm silent coat under them

One of the main reasons for getting the T6 was the fact we have 3 teenage kids and they needed more space in the back. The lack of usb charging was a huge issue however so I added a couple of usb ports under the front seats. They are currently run off a piggyback fuse from the front fuse box however they will get wired in to a leisure battery in the future.

A couple more “bolt on” modifications also made it on this week. Heko wind deflectors, transporter HQ floor mat to protect the front carpet and veedubs transporters front splitter.
