After all the good advice on here I ran a wire from my starter battery through to under my drivers seat where I fitted the https://www.amazon.co.uk/Victron-Energy-Blue-Smart-Charger/dp/B081D14SSD/
When I installed my EHU I ran a socket on its own MSB from the consumer unit to under the drivers...
Good point, there are a couple places nearby that do free battery health checks from a quick Google. I will get booked in. Thank you.
It was register in 2023, sold from Hillside Leisure to the dealership in July 2024 by the looks of the paperwork, so stood in showroom on EHU for 6 months before...
Yeah we bought the van and I'm sure the guy built it himself. The initial electrics weren't correct and the starter battery was being drained by the leisurebattery when we were stopped. It was checked by an auto electrician and the starter is charger then the leisurebattery through the...
If you’ve got a T6.1, the low rate of charge is most probably because of the ‘smart’ alternators that are fitted to Euro 5 and Euro 6 compliant vehicles such as T6 and T6.1 Transporters. As I understand, you’ll never achieve much more than 80% charged under normal running as the BMS will...
Hi All,
I'm new to campervans and have had a T6.1 for about a year. I used it a lot last summer with no issues. However I have noticed that the leisurebattery is no longer chargingfrom the mains hook up. I have checked the cable and also used another but no change. I also checked the fuses on...
No disrespect, but i think you need to get knowledgeable "hands on" help. There is obviously something fundamentally wrong if you're chewing through starter batteries & the LB isn't charging as it should. Trying to diagnose it with drip feed info, is virtually impossible. It needs looking at...
I've actually just done this. Added in a fogstar 20a charger. This sits under the drivers seat. Ran a extension cable to the back where I have a 240 from my mains hookup and my jackary 1000 so I can do a quick top up from either if I need a bit of fast charge.
Yep, good point, you get the trickle when on EHU. I fitted an Ablemail instead as that essentially works from the leisurebattery so also works from solar or will also sacrifice LB charge to maintain the SB if you have no charge coming in. It’s brilliant for camping or leaving the vehicle...
Now that we're in one place for a couple of days, I've had time to think about another plea for advice - it's pain in the 4rse as we're only just at the beginning of a 5 week trip. Apologies for any typos as I'm on my iPad.
After issues with my starter battery (which now seems to be OK), I...
So if you have the factory BCM controlled relay when you are driving the starter and leisurebattery will be connected as a single battery bank.
The van will charge this to around 80%. It leaves that 20% so the batteries can accept charge during regenerative braking.
So if you camp off grid...
So just take out the 25a leisure fuse on the front will prevent it from attempting to charge the LB when on EHU? That’s great news if that’s all that’s needed.
Like you said, I’ll probably be okay just on the lithium LB, but sometimes we will need to use an induction plate or hairdryer etc...
- why is that?
and from what charge source?
solar will charge the LB 24/7
EHU IP22 will charge the LB 24/7
Orion will charge when engine running.
alternator will charge the starter battery.
unless. . . . .
you connect the EHU IP22 to the STARTER battery. . . . then when the starter...
Thanks - I also have the word ‘charger’ under the red button. When we we picked the van up it was on so we have left it that way. We hooked up to EHU earlier and the leisurebattery did seem to charge although the unit with the line of lights didn’t show a light on the charging box - pictures...
So the Victron charger isn't the charger that works from the EHU/240v - that one is built into the Sargent unit.
The Victron Orion is your DC-DC charger that chargers your leisurebatteryfrom the van - you can tell this as it's currently telling you it's not charging as the input voltage isn't...
Thank you Chris. One last question.. online I read that 12.1 was virtually flat. How do I know if the battery is nearly flat when the reading is already so low?
yes,
looking back to the original sketch here : Dellmassive`s Camper Van Adventure
ill have a quick disconnect on the starter battery , and the leisurebattery.
so ill be able to connect to either just by plugging it in.
i have a few Victron IP22 & IP65 chargers that i can use,
but...
The two sockets on the dash are powered off the leisurebattery, but I suspect your right with respect to the power transfer between the starter battery and leisure is voltage dependent, not if the engine is running. But I have confirmed the EHU doesn't charge the starter battery.
thank you so much. its much clear now.
Just one doubt, so in case of adding a new battery, Will I need to buy a charger right? (the same I have now for the current battery.
Any DC-DC recomendation: 12V, EHU and Solar input? in a future I want ro add solar panels as well.
All that will happen with a normal EHU set up is that the hook up charges the battery, and the battery supplies the fridge, lights etc as normal. So when you're on hookup, you will technically be running everything off the hookup even though it it's all running via the battery.
If you've got a...
If none of your chargers are working then how is your battery fully charged?
How are you checking that each individual charger is working or not and the battery is fully charged - I don't disbelieve you but if we know the exact tests done it might give some more clues.
In particular how are...
