It can certainly be recovered as a DIY project. There are a few clips on YouTube of people repairing very similar damage. One might question the integrity of the remaining lacquer so you'd have to weigh up the risks. One example here

If I remember correctly by reading some of the posts on the forum, they'll try and do a certain amount of EGR cleans before replacing it (probably hoping that your warranty runs out before they have to replace it). If you burning oil, that might result in a certain amount of clogging. How much oil?

I can’t remember exactly, but I know I had two smaller gauge wires that went to and from same place. Think I remember replacing both with bigger gauge wire. I’ll let someone else who knows offer insight though! Good luck
