how can I prevent inlet manifold from sooting up, this has happened twice since owning the van and not a cheap job.
Had the van 5 years, mileage when purchased 7500 and mileage now 90000.
Its not always obvious but the engine runs slightly rough/lumpy and tickover increases from around 800 to around 1000 rpm
If you turn of the engine and its doing a regen thats when you hear the engine fan running trying to dissipate some of the extra heat it has generated for the regen
have a look over here. . .
some results that you can compare . .

I did once yes, and it didn't seem to do anything so I gave up!
You can force a regen at standstill using VCDS and (I believe) a combination of pedal action, but the car has to be hot.
I was just curious really as this is the first EU6 car I've had (actually our Qashqai was probably EU6, but...
Hello,
I have had a new engine rebuild and turbo on my 2016 4 motion 204 T6 and still having DPF regens every few miles.
I paid £200 when the turbo went for the DPF to be cleaned but ever since then it has done a regen every time i go out.
See images for oil/ash level and how often it regens...
I assume they have replaced fuel filters as part of the initial work completed?
Also have they checked for a clogged DPF, especially of the vehicle was left idling for a while and not able to do a regen?
Yeah that's the snag.
Interestingly the distance since last regen was at zero when the regen was still taking place (I've got a screenshot), like you say I'm sure it doesn't go to zero until it's complete, so maybe something was done.
...this isn't to say it doesn't get higher though.
I've had the DPF light come on with only 9g of soot, to clear the DPF light I have to force a regen but it won't allow a forced regen until around 11g of soot.
My main issue with it is the fuel consumption, it's sh*t! When it's not choosing to...
...up an old thread to hopefully get some advice on what seems like a similar issue to the OP.
In the last few weeks I've noticed my van doing a regen frequently. I downloaded the DPF monitor app and can see it is regen'ing fairly consistently every 2 hours and the soot mass measured is 24g...
..."lean" mixture - thus enough oxygen to burn all the fuel.
Below a plot of an experiment consisting of four sections:
a) 0...950 seconds - no regen
b) 950..1500 seconds - DPF regen - "normal" engine revs
c) 1500...1750 seconds DPF regen - engine revs kept elevated at 2600-3000 RPM
d)...
We’re in the Alps now, like you say it’s so nice not noticing the regens and them being so unoften.
Also funny was last year we stayed in the same overnight stay as this year in Dijon and we were on fumes when we got there, this year we had 150 miles left in the tank!! Shows you how hard it...
No its not normal
Typically some regen at 24 down to 6, and some 30 down to 8. Mine is the latter. Depends on software version i expect.
Mine takes 10-15 mins to fully regen regardless of motorway or around town, but if i know its doing it i try to keep revs above 2000
There will be a lower...
