Re - gen happening too often

To add a custom sensor for the EGR position, go to Settings -> Sensors from the main screen. Tap ’+' on the top of screen. You should see 'New PID' entry at the bottom of the sensor list:

Tap the New PID and fill in the following details:
Code:
Name: EGR Position
Short name: EGR Position
Command: 22446A
Header: 7E0
Decode scheme: Formula
Formula: ((Shr(Signed(Shl(And(A,127),1)),1)*256)+B)*0.01
Minimum: -120
Maximum: 120
Unit: %

Repeat the process for the rest of the custom sensors:
Code:
Name: DPF soot mass calculated
Short name: DPF soot mass calculated
Command: 22208B
Header: 7E0
Formula: ((A*256)+B) * 0.01
Minimum: 0
Maximum: 50
Unit: g

Code:
Name: DPF soot mass measured
Short name: DPF soot mass measured
Command: 22208C
Header: 7E0
Formula: ((A*256)+B) * 0.01
Minimum: -20
Maximum: 30
Unit: g

Code:
Name: DPF fuel since last regen
Short name: DPF fuel since last regen
Command: 2220D8
Header: 7E0
Formula: ((A*256)+B) / 100
Minimum: 0
Maximum: 100
Unit: L

After this you should be able to add custom sensors to dashboard just like the built-in ones

Finally, to record the data in addition to showing the dashboard, it should be enough to tap ’Data recording’ from the main screen and selecting ’Record data’ checkbox. The recorded files also appear into ’Data recording’ section - you can export the files to CSV by swiping the file name to left from the list. But I haven’t really used this feature much so I don’t know all the details like if it always creates a file per connection or perhaps multiple on longer drives.

Ok, I hope I got above about right… doing this ”cold” from phone so unverified. I’m happy to answer any questions but please be patient - I might not be able to pick up immediately.

Good luck with the app setup and your DPF though!

Thanks,‘that’s really helpful!!

I’ll spend some time reading through it all and then see if I can manage to set it all up :)

Haven't managed to to ty any of this yet, the day the forum was down a week or so ago I had a whole day free but couldn't read your instructions then the next day the van went back to the garage to sort the ad-blue issues out... haven't got it back yet :(

Dragging up an old thread to hopefully get some advice on what seems like a similar issue to the OP.

In the last few weeks I've noticed my van doing a regen frequently. I downloaded the DPF monitor app and can see it is regen'ing fairly consistently every 2 hours and the soot mass measured is 24g before regen and 6g after. Other important stat is the oil ash residue is at 57g. Due to the majority of urban driving the mileage covered is usually about 50 miles between regens, which I know isn't great for a DPF.

I don't cut the regens short and always let them finish as I know this can also cause issues. Also worth pointing out the EML light and DPF warning have not came on at any point. The only symptoms are the frequency of the regens.

Question is, any suggestions on what could be the cause of the above issue? I am thinking EGR or DPF replacement and hoping it is not something more sinister as my van is a 2017 204 CXEB 78k miles, the more I read the more fear it's giving me of a bigger issue....help!!!

Anyone?

Once per week, for roughly 25-30mins.

My use of the van hasn’t changed since getting it almost 2 years ago, it’s just the sudden change in frequency of regens that’s got me concerned.

Mine is typical of most. Regens every 150 miles if doing short journeys or 250-300 miles on a run.
If its doing it more often you are creating more particulate for some reason.
Saying a regen time period is meaningless.

When was your van last serviced? If doing repeated short runs, the oil may need changed, also the air filter may be clogged.

What diesel do you use? If supermarket diesel, these do not have the same levels of detergent additives. Use premium fuel.

Thanks for the feedback so far. The van was last serviced 11 months ago when it was MOT’d (4k miles ago). It will be getting serviced again in a months time when it is MOT’d is due again.

I do use Asda diesel mostly, so will try running from shell or BP for a while to see if that makes a difference. Also been reading posts about the millers diesel additives and have ordered a bottle of that to try.

Last point that may be worthwhile. I took the van out earlier today and noticed the soot mass calculated was at approx 12g whilst the soot mass measured was at 22g. With the DPF showing approx 48%. This was approx 2hrs (55 miles) after the last regen. As soon as the soot mass measured hit 24g it triggered a regen.

Any ideas why the calculated and measured soot mass values are so different?
