T6.1 too much oil warning - how worried should I be?

Briefly, the software update and oil level check I had on mine, sorted out the issue. Get it to the dealership to sort out. It's under warranty so don't wait.

Looking for advice: Which ODB tool to choose?

6.1’s are well known for the ‘oil level too high’ error due to regens not being completed. I loosely watch mine get to 95% accumulation and then keep a closer eye on it once the regen takes place.

    Which oil? 150PS diesel

Further to the discussion on the grade of oil recommended for the T6.1 the label in the engine bay of my van states 0w30 C3 grade, so did a bit more digging on the differences between C2, C3 etc. and concluded that C3 is better for a harder working van.......but not easy to find in 0w30. I...

    T6.1 Reduce Oil warning

When you say ‘the oil was fine before we left’ is that because you did a physical check of the level on the dipstick? Or is that an assumption because the reduce oil warning hadn’t come on? If it’s the first one then where has the extra oil volume come from in 1500 miles? If it’s the second one...

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

Congrats on the new van! I don’t know all the answers to your questions but will help where I can… - my understanding is that the 60 mile thing is just a reset of the system everytime you open and close the bonet. It makes the van think you’ve ‘fixed’ the problem. Then after 60 miles of driving...

    6.1 Immobiliser/Battery Short Carista Codes

By way of update I've finally managed to get the van booked in to VW and they have identified that it is the oil level sensor that was causing the issue (incorrectly reporting high oil temp). I can only assume its a dual sensor for level and temp. No issues with warranty and replaced without...

T6.1 too much oil warning - how worried should I be?

Hiya, I’ve just picked up a secondhand (2020) T6.1 Transporter from the VW dealership. About 60 miles in to having it (about 5 miles of city driving and 55miles of 60mph) the warning message came on for oil level too high. Sounds super similar, but would be good to understand if the update you...

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

Hiya, complete newbie here, so apologies if I’ve posted this in the wrong place. I’ve just picked up a secondhand (2020) T6.1 Transporter from the VW dealership. About 60 miles in to having it (about 5 miles of city driving and 55miles of 60mph) the warning message came on for ‘oil level too...

Common issues to look for on test drive

In addition to the good points raised above, check the oil level, if the oil is high on the dipstick, i.e. over the maximum, this could indicate dpf problems and failed regenerations. It's unlikely to be low as the seller should have checked it prior to your visit.

Tailgate handle release opening when driving

...xc90 before. Heating not changing. Found that to be a white plastic gear on a servo. On order. Apparently small hands to fit it. Also high oil level randomly. Done a dip stick check and was on high limit. Ordered a suction pump to lower level 500ml. Hopefully over filled last service. Thanks

Oil Analysis shows high levels of Iron

take a look here: i think miller need to add to there list : the "CEXB well known engine wear problem" too? https://www.t6forum.com/threads/204ps-bi-turbo-cxeb-t6-engine-turbo-problems.52916/ .

    T6.1 - DPF Failure at 30,000 miles?

Just to update on this (and it isn't good news). I booked it in to a DPF specialist and following 2 hours of diagnostics, the DPF filter is damaged beyond repair and the oil level is above maximum and contaminated (was only changed a few months ago). Way forward now is: Oil and filter change...

    2016 204 4motion oil analysis 1.9% soot in 3k

Yes I’m going to change the oil straightaway. I’ve got a trip to the alps in it coming up, so a good test for oil usage and I’ll get another analysis done afterwards. Yes very similar results. How are you monitoring regen? Through a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner? Has anyone ever had an oil analysis...

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

Hi all, I have recently purchased a t6.1 21 plate. Driving back from the dealership I got the (now understood to be very common) message of ‘engine oil level too high - go to workshop’. I understand from all the forums + videos that the likelihood is the oil has been topped up too high. The...

P0088, P0191 and P2463 fault codes (EML, Flashing coil light, DPF light and limp mode/lack of power)

Cheers for the reply roadtripper. Am I right in thinking DPF regen won’t work with the faults existing? The level was showing as 40 something so not crazy high. The DPF was done by previous owner’s mechanic not too long ago, full service history and oil and filter changes every 6 months or so so...

Oil Analysis shows high levels of Iron

Possibly a defective EGR however with that many re-gen’s and with DPF soot levels that high is there another more important issue to resolve first? What’s the engine code? What’s the engine mileage? What’s the oil consumption mL / XXXX miles if any? What MPG are you achieving and has it dropped...

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

The level being at the top of the hatch isn’t a problem and the indication on the dash’ is a warning. Why it’s risen (if it has) could be a problem if nobody has added oil, it could be down to fuel dilution. I suggest you monitor the cold level and see if it continues to rise. Theres a Search...

T6.1 too much oil warning - how worried should I be?

I’ve had exactly the same issue with my T6.1, had the software update which fixed it. There’s a few threads on here that explain the issue better than I can, something about the way euro 6 diesel engines work and fuel dilution.

Oil Analysis shows high levels of Iron

I've just had an oil analysis back with high levels of soot, van does seem to be doing a regen every 150 miles when it hits 24g regardless of driving, do you think this would point to goosed egr valve ? Edited to add sample oil was 5k old and soot level was 1.3%!
