Dec 70 plate 150 dsg highline here. Happen to me after first 2 oil changes but as posted by that california video guy - I also noticed the expansion from cold to hot engine from 1/2 oil stick to almost max so i just adjusted oillevel to 3/5 ish(cold) on stick and it's been fine ever since. I...
Software upgrade needed. Its a common fault.
Oil expansion. Oillevel needs to allow for expansion.
Presume that's what upgrade allows for.
Since upgrade no warning light since last December.
Make sure when you go for upgrade they know about this issue. Ask them not to fill oillevel too...
For me, I guess the important question is whether, by allowing the engine to run-on, the amount of unburnt fuel ending up in the oil is minimised? If so, then whether the regen is completed or abandoned becomes a moot point.
The fact that VW decide a highlevel alarm is required sort of indicates that there is an issue with over fuelling.
What other reason could there be?
I’ve never heard of somebody overfilling with engine oil, I’d say that people who are not confident checking oillevels get somebody else to do it.
I’ve been in and out regarding the issue of “oillevel too high” I contacted VW customer service and demanded a free oil change and engine check.
VW Liverpool called me and offered me a free oil change,
Hi
I picked up a VW T6 with 45K mileage.
It had dual mass flywheel and clutch and cambelt done back in October '21 and it's done less than 5k since then.
Thought I'd see about a VW all-in-one package but when they checked the car they said the oillevel was way too high, and there was an leak...
I think it might be best to install the Tafmet kit and carry out an oil change straight away rather than waiting 1000 miles, fairly obvious there’s an issue and every mile driven could result in more damage.
If there is a highlevel of contamination you won’t clear it all with a single oil...
If in doubt change it, ideally get an oil analysis done beforehand and amongst other things it will reveal how much fuel dilution.
If you don’t have an oil analysis kit available just change it.
In my experience, the software is the excuse given by the dealers, I don't believe a software update will fix this. It needs to be drained and filled correctly - done at the correct engine temperature and not on a cold engine. I have done over 2k miles since my oillevel has been corrected and...
Many thanks - super helpful. There's a drip tray (I think?) under leak so not easy to see. Yes frustrating not done when they replaced DMF and clutch in October. And waste having to put a new cambelt in but I'm going for it since would be nice to have everything right at least intitially!
IF it had it’s first oil change at approx 19000 miles (says interval inspection?) it didn’t get the next oil change for another 30000 miles.
VW Longlife servicing states 2 years or 18000 miles max’, your van has been driven well past this distance interval.
I don’t regard VW Longlife servicing...
Thank you very much!
Full journey plotted.
Blue line =engine revs - just to give an idea how the driving is going on.
Green line = command signal - I believe- to oil pressure regulating valve
Orange line = oil pressure - based on the oil pressure switches - thus only three levels
0= no...
PS, I drove about 300 miles the first time it happened with no Ill effects. I would say worry not, but I do sell pianos for a living, so don't trust me obviously!
Morning,
I had the joyful EML light turn on just in time for Xmas, called VW assist who diagnosed glow plug 4 and advised visiting dealer.
Additionally had "Oil levelhigh" warning, so booked for service oil change.
Booked in with Snows Plymouth who said fault was no longer active (although...
Exactly the same experiences;
Went back and forth with the main dealership.
They now only seem to fill to 70%(ish) as they are aware of the problem. Had been awaiting an update to reduce the Regen rate but appears to have never arrived as I presume that doesn’t meet their emissions guidelines.
If any one you kind folk familiar with the mechanics of these 150 bhp engines, I'd appreciate some comments. This is a sale from a private dealer.
Firstly, no physical service log book. No idea why not. I assume you should get one these days? (I had one with my old 5.1). There is paper work...
