Dometic chrome and zinc plating is absolute crap. Sink hinges especially, on my second set at £80 a pop. Avoid caustics, acids and obviously abrasives. The parts cost a fortune, you are better off stripping it down and re-finishing it youself.

The zinc anodes on ships hulls are sacrificial. They don't stop corrosion, they are a more reactive metal than the steel hull, so they corrode before the hull does. They need replacing regularly.

Yes, I meant they stop the hull corroding. This was on the GCSE specification as an example of reactivity series.

Most VW OEM bolts tend to be geomet coated but bright zinc plated (bzp) will be fine. They are likely to be std metric size threads. Generally, it is only seatbelt fixings that are non metric on European cars - these are often 7/16 UNF. Being a hoarder I have a large box of surplus / recovered...

Many of the VW fixings have a geomet coating on them which is corrosion resistant and takes paint well. If you cannot get these I’d go for zinc plated and a squirt of waxoil (dinitrol, bilt hamber wax) once they’re in.
