Upgrading the pollen filter / cabin filter

Turns out it’s not silver, there is an extra layer with zinc pyrithione and tetradecyl diammonium silane. So not only will it reduce mould growth, it will also prevent dandruff!

    Found T6 tailgate hinges

...plates topic, that ones that mount behind the tailgate hinges I'll be fabricating some plates to suit the hinges and send them off for hot dip zinc galvanising I noticed they're quite pricey, around £36 pair off eBay for OEM parts, If anyone is missing these on their van get in touch, I...

    Side door rust spot.

Had a little look and the main bits seems to zinc inclusion and not the rust I have. Just means I'll be checking my van closely for the zinc bubbles now. Oh VW!!!

    Dometic Oven / grill corrosion

Dometic chrome and zinc plating is absolute crap. Sink hinges especially, on my second set at £80 a pop. Avoid caustics, acids and obviously abrasives. The parts cost a fortune, you are better off stripping it down and re-finishing it youself.

Moving night heater hot air inlet.

The zinc anodes on ships hulls are sacrificial. They don't stop corrosion, they are a more reactive metal than the steel hull, so they corrode before the hull does. They need replacing regularly.

Moving night heater hot air inlet.

Yes, I meant they stop the hull corroding. This was on the GCSE specification as an example of reactivity series.

Moving night heater hot air inlet.

...was welding, then worried about the heat damaging the floor, so pretty much ruled that out. Good point about galvanic corrosion (don't they put zinc blocks on metal hulls to stop corrosion?) Had not thought of riveting, but a possibility worth considering. Sikaflex a duct end cap is looking...

    Are EVs the way forward?

...EVs) mining in china and other places? Also the catastrophic damage to the mangrove shore lines in Indonesia for the mining of nickel (or was it zinc) also highly used in EVs. Whole villages and the way of life of thousands of Indonesia's poor are being swept away. Then the coastal errosion...

Safety issue- Engine dies when changing gear.

...VW isn't a premium brand. Not of the same order of magnitude but they never sorted the leaky windows.......they did their best to wriggle out of zinc inclusion, the EU6 emissions systems are dubious and they persevered with inadequate/dangerous H4 headlamps. I really hope you get this sorted...

    Missing bolt from DPF

Most VW OEM bolts tend to be geomet coated but bright zinc plated (bzp) will be fine. They are likely to be std metric size threads. Generally, it is only seatbelt fixings that are non metric on European cars - these are often 7/16 UNF. Being a hoarder I have a large box of surplus / recovered...

Front mud flaps (not OEM) rusting door

...did the job or has started rusting through. If I remember correctly, I used some rust treatment (the type that turns rust black) then some zinc primer and a standard VW touch-up kit. I may have first rubbed it down slightly with a glass-fibre pencil? Anyway, I moved on to OEM style front...

    Barn Door adjustment bolts

Many of the VW fixings have a geomet coating on them which is corrosion resistant and takes paint well. If you cannot get these I’d go for zinc plated and a squirt of waxoil (dinitrol, bilt hamber wax) once they’re in.

Rust on sidebars, how to fix?

In theory galvanising (zinc coating) should still prevent the steel from rusting, even if the layer of zinc becomes scratched, by sacrificial protection as zinc is more reactive than iron. I fact on ships they bolt sacrificial anodes of zinc (or aluminium) onto the hull. These are replaced after...

    Cheap side bars rusted badly.

...off, with lots of cussing and swearing. I’m not going to be fitting any more. The only bits to survive unscathed are the stainless clips, and zinc plated bits, for obvious reasons. If you are going to fit some, use plenty of protective grease or rust preventer as you go, inside the ends of...

    Cheap side bars rusted badly.

I doubt expensive ones more resilient these days as they are all steel Powder coated. We used to make side bars out of stainless pipe, brackets etc. but 'we can buy for £200 less' is what we heard. Well this is what you get for cheap...
