T6.1 Mains Hook Up Not Charging Battery

Hi All, I'm new to campervans and have had a T6.1 for about a year. I used it a lot last summer with no issues. However I have noticed that the leisure battery is no longer charging from the mains hook up. I have checked the cable and also used another but no change. I also checked the fuses on...

    Temporary solar advice

Yeah we bought the van and I'm sure the guy built it himself. The initial electrics weren't correct and the starter battery was being drained by the leisure battery when we were stopped. It was checked by an auto electrician and the starter is charger then the leisure battery through the...

First post, first camping trip, first user error(?)

Thanks for the insight. I will see what happens with health check and likely new battery from dealer. I am considering solar so will likely ask for a battery maintainer at the same time as that has been mentioned by several people now so seems the way to go.

    Battery Ah size recommendations

Yep, good point, you get the trickle when on EHU. I fitted an Ablemail instead as that essentially works from the leisure battery so also works from solar or will also sacrifice LB charge to maintain the SB if you have no charge coming in. It’s brilliant for camping or leaving the vehicle...

Starter battery still charging after 14 hours whilst static

If you’ve got a T6.1, the low rate of charge is most probably because of the ‘smart’ alternators that are fitted to Euro 5 and Euro 6 compliant vehicles such as T6 and T6.1 Transporters. As I understand, you’ll never achieve much more than 80% charged under normal running as the BMS will...

    Keeping starter battery topped up

Hi everyone, Frank here from Norwich. I bought a lovely second-hand T6 (2017 plate) and was wondering how I could use my Jackery power station to keep the starter battery topped up? Sadly, my van has to live outside since we don't have a garage or other undercover parking opportunity. Last...

Leisure Battery - accidentally drained, what next?

Currently I have it plugged it in via EHU using mains power from the house so fingers crossed it’s charging. I checked and everything is working as it should - fridge, lights etc - but I’ve turned them all off in the hope that the EHU power will be focused on recharging the leisure battery. Time...

First post, first camping trip, first user error(?)

Good point, there are a couple places nearby that do free battery health checks from a quick Google. I will get booked in. Thank you. It was register in 2023, sold from Hillside Leisure to the dealership in July 2024 by the looks of the paperwork, so stood in showroom on EHU for 6 months before...

    Leisure electrics sense check

Advantages to both. Multiple output charger is more compact but only works on EHU. The Ablemail will trickle charge the starter battery regardless of the source of charge on the leisure battery. If space is tight and you'll mostly be on EHU go for the multi output charger. If you want to be...

Solar panel 200watt - Not what I expected

With ignition off the two systems will then be separate, but the battery will likely be at around 80% at the point you park up. It will then charge further from the solar. You solar will charge the combined battery bank with ignition on, but it won't make much difference to the state of charge...

Lithium LifePo4 12v Batteries - Time For An Upgrade?

So if you have the factory BCM controlled relay when you are driving the starter and leisure battery will be connected as a single battery bank. The van will charge this to around 80%. It leaves that 20% so the batteries can accept charge during regenerative braking. So if you camp off grid...

    Soc isnt changing

    - why is that? and from what charge source? solar will charge the LB 24/7 EHU IP22 will charge the LB 24/7 Orion will charge when engine running. alternator will charge the starter battery. unless. . . . . you connect the EHU IP22 to the STARTER battery. . . . then when the starter...

    Confused over leisure battery reading!!

Thank you Chris. One last question.. online I read that 12.1 was virtually flat. How do I know if the battery is nearly flat when the reading is already so low?

[Guide] Battery Maintainer (for Starter battery) -- How I Done It --

The EHU route will only work to maintain the starter battery if it is configured to do so, either with a dedicated mains charger or by some form of battery to battery charged (DC-DC capability or separate trickle charger) If you want to get as much useful energy from your power bank into just...

    Sargent EC50 alarming

Thanks - I also have the word ‘charger’ under the red button. When we we picked the van up it was on so we have left it that way. We hooked up to EHU earlier and the leisure battery did seem to charge although the unit with the line of lights didn’t show a light on the charging box - pictures...

Starter battery still charging after 14 hours whilst static

No disrespect, but i think you need to get knowledgeable "hands on" help. There is obviously something fundamentally wrong if you're chewing through starter batteries & the LB isn't charging as it should. Trying to diagnose it with drip feed info, is virtually impossible. It needs looking at...

Lithium LifePo4 12v Batteries - Time For An Upgrade?

thank you so much. its much clear now. Just one doubt, so in case of adding a new battery, Will I need to buy a charger right? (the same I have now for the current battery. Any DC-DC recomendation: 12V, EHU and Solar input? in a future I want ro add solar panels as well.

Leisure Battery charging from mains hook up

I've actually just done this. Added in a fogstar 20a charger. This sits under the drivers seat. Ran a extension cable to the back where I have a 240 from my mains hookup and my jackary 1000 so I can do a quick top up from either if I need a bit of fast charge.

    Bloody fickle vans!

I've got a spare ctek charger so just going to use that the next time i lay the van up! Didnt plan on leaving it parked up for so long but life happens. I've got RAC cover, did think about using it but also thought i could just keep topping it up on the drive home. Heading home tomorrow so maybe...

    Dellmassive`s Camper Van Adventure

We never use EHU, And if we did it would only run a 12v 10-30A support charger to keep the 12v system topped up. All the 240v would always come from the inverter.... So no earth switching needed. Saying that I believe that the PE earth stud on the Renogy inverter is tied to its chassis and...
