17” Posadas wheels (49 offset) common tyre size?

I’ve tried searching but can’t find definitive answers…

I’ve Picked up a new set of amarok posadas which are 49mm offset.

My question is, after the standard 235/55/17, what is the next size larger from these that most people run?

I don’t want to go as big as 245/65/17 for scrubbing and odometer reasons, so is there a common size between these 2?

On a 2020 transporter T6.1 340 that needs above 102 speed rating.

Many thanks

Lots of discussions on here about wheels and tyres. They're all nuts!

Hi all,

I have a set of Amarok Posadas wheels (8J17 offset 49) ready for my new Transporter T6.1 t32 4motion. I have just fitted the wheels only (no tires yet) for fit and worry that the sensor wiring might bind with the new 235 55 17 tires. There doesn't appear to be huge margins. The supplied wheels are the ugly steels 7J17 offset 55.

Does anyone have any experience in this regard? - I don't want to buy good tires just to find they don't work

Thanks for any response

Looks like they should fit well. If there is any rubbing a 5mm spacer would sort it, although I doubt that would be necessary

Thanks so much David! I have tried the calculators but get cold feet when I see the actual bodywork - I'll try and find a dud 235 55 17 tire and put it on the rim to check clearance before I commit to a full set of Michelins. They have to be 103 rated for the T6.1 450 T32. Another option could be swapping the existing 215 60 17's on to the 8" wheels. Calculators say it's ok but on the limit of stretch.

Hi, How did you get on with these wheels? I got some Amarok Aldo 17" alloys for my t6.1 (t30), but they did not clear the brake callipers. Were the Posadas OK?

Hi Manfrotto,

I only put them on last Friday! I waited for a good deal on tyres - 40% off in Australia for Kuhmo - would have preferred Michelin but almost double the price.

They fitted fine - I was aware that some alloys wouldn't fit with the t32 larger discs so did a bit of research beforehand.

My worry about the inside clearance was for nothing. The sensor wires are closer but have about a centre metre clearance and seem ok

I've attached a pick with the calliper showing and also balancing weights on wheel - still reasonable clearance

best wishes

I forgot to mention - I put on 235 55 r17 tyres which have to be 103 load rating or higher. I considered 235 60 r17 but most of these are 102 rating and thus not legal for the t32 spec.

You can get delivery van treads but not anything exciting. Cooper make an ATT in 235 60 17 with higher load but I'm generally on sealed roads with temperatures of 30 to 38 degrees C.

Thanks mate. Here in NZ they are getting very picky on using tyres more than 5% larger circumference than OEM, and demand a low volume modification certificate, so will need to stick with the 235/55 x 17s, even though the original tyres on the Amarok fitted fine with no rubbing. It was just the rim rubbing on the brake calliper (front wheels only). And Wheel spacers require the low volume mod cert as well :(

My t32 (4motion) tdi450 vehicle tag shows 215 60 17 and 235 55 17 as the standard tyres.
