18 inch wheel tyre size dilemma help please

Hi All

Had my T6 8 years and decided it's time to move away from the 16 inch (winter) and 17 inch (summer) wheels and opt for some BBS SX rims (et45, 8j). Question is what size tyre;

Van is a T28 so I'd get away with a 235 50 18 101 tyre. Will I notice a ride improvement over the stock 215 16 and 17 inch wheels? Any idea what pressure these would need to be ran at?

The plate on the van however recommends 255 45 18 103 tyres. Most online fitment checkers state 255 is too wide for an 8J rim though. Has anyone any opinions?
Would the 255 significantly affect fuel consumption but on the other hand significantly improve ride?

Id be looking at all season tyres whichever option is chosen.

Thanks very much in advance.

I'm not going to tell you what tyre size is "best" on an 18" rim, there are several options and opinions.
I use 235/55/18 Michelin Cross Climate 2 all season tyres and here's why;
It's less than 4% bigger in rolling circumference to the size of the tyres it came out of the factory on so the difference in gearing is minimal, there is a huge range of different tyres available in that size and it's a good fit on the 8" wide rims that I have.
Lots of others use the same size and lots of relevant information in these threads;
I also have a set of Claytons with 215/65/16 and the ride is noticeably better with the 18's on, due to having more sidewall and lower pressures.
I run the 235/55/18 at 42 PSI, opinions vary on this, 42 works for me.
