Van came with 265 40 20s, has koni coil overs but the front are rubbing on full lock, worried about upcoming MOT, if I raise will the clearance increase? Any pointers greatly received.1000008252.jpg

Fit some wheel spacers. If your happy with current height you probably only need a bit of clearance on lock.

I think it could go up a little, would that help?
Maybe, maybe not. Rubbing on full lock is more down to tyre width, rim width and rim offset rather than ride height.

When I ran 275 width tyres I needed 10mm spacer son the front to prevent full lock rubbing even at stock ride height. There is a problem adding spacers to just the front though as it makes the rear look like it's a lot narrower. Generally if people add spacers they increase rear by 10mm. I run 20mm front and 30mm rear spacers with a 255 width tyre.

I've been experiencing same issue with my 19 inch Brocks - rubbing on full lock.

I asked the VW Stealership what they recommend to remedy this but they just shrugged and eventually suggested that perhaps I put the factory wheels back on for the MOT (not happening)

Anyway I was chatting to Steve at CRS and he suggested, same as you @jayc001, don't over look tire width. Might be the easiest way to solve some of the full lock rubbing.

I'm currently running 255/45/19 but they'll need swapped soon enough. 245/45/19 will probably be my next set, effectively reducing the tire by 10mm around.

Worth pointing out tyre manufacturer also plays a part when clearance is limited. On my T5.1 My Pirelli rubbed on lock but exact same size Accelera didn't. There's a reason the stance and lowered fans almost exclusively user Nankang rubber and that's because they are consistently narrower for a given size over premium brands.

I have contacted the converters for advice, also looking at the options on willtheyfit, I need to work out how much I need to loose to stop the rub. Are there any issues leaving the 265 on the back and something narrower on the front?

Out of interest, has lowering of suspension affected anyone's insurance ( increase or decrease ) ?

It's a modification from manufacturer's specification, so it'll either attract a loading or it won't, depending on the insurer. Very unlikely ever to get a discount though.

I was in 2 minds about declaring it....

I did, insurance did go up... But I'm bloody glad I did.

Ended up getting a replacement windscreen on insurance about 18 months ago due to chip from driving on the M4. Swapped the glass no problem via AutoGlass but then we had major issues recalibrating the instrument cluster. Lane Assist, Curise, Auto Dip Headlights - all work on the camera/sensors at the top of the windscreen.

Was passed from pillar to post between insurance, AutoGlass and VW about "who was going to deal with it". Insurance tried saying it wasn't covered because of the vehicle stance "not being factory"

To which I pointed out that I had specifically declared that I had aftermarket suspension/lowering.

Had them bang to rights at that point. They had to get a specialist company to recalibrate the vehicle and I was advised it was "very expensive"

I wonder how they managed to recalibrate it when the van was lowered in the first place...
