Hi, I'm wondering whether I've got any chance of getting zinc inclusion on the paintwork of my T6 covered under warranty. I noticed a handful of little, uniform lumps had appeared on various parts of my Silver T6 about a couple of months ago. I took the van to my nearest VW approved paint and bodywork specialist, who took a few photos and measurements (of the depth of the pain). After a couple of weeks, VW got back to me to say that the warranty department had refused the issue are a warranty claim. I then spoke to VW's customer service, who advised me to get an 'independent' paintwork assessment carried out by PVWI 2010, who seem to be an independent body, but still approved by VW. That cost me £180.
The inspector seemed to think that it should be covered under warranty and wrote a report, which was observations and measurements, without any subjective thoughts, which I then sent to VW Customer care. Their warranty department once again refused the warranty claim.
Needless to say, I'm pretty annoyed that VW can consider it anything but a warranty claim, as from my limited knowledge, there is nothing I could have done to prevent the issue from arising. They claim that the paintwork defects are only covered under a 3 year warranty and that only repairs to through-corrosion are claimable after the 3 Year Paint Warranty period.
Are they just hoping that the through-corrosion doesn't happen before 2028?!
Here's the report:
INSPECTION:
Attention was drawn to several raised spots on the N/S Sliding door & N/S rear quarter panel which can only be described as blisters. The 2 panels were checked for any post manufacturing refinishing and no evidence was found. After closer inspection several of these blisters have split. The defect below the paint surface is causing the blister to swell & split.
Rear Quarter panel has 15 raised blisters.
Sliding door has 10 raised blisters.
CONCLUSION:
The blistering found on the N/S Sliding door & N/S rear quarter panel, have occurred from beneath the paint surface. There is no evidence of impact damage, external influence or paint refinishing was found.
