That was my understanding as well, i.e. any remaining euro 5s would have to be registered before 1st September, indeed, it was also my understanding that any outstanding orders for the old engines were automatically switched to the euro 6 equivalents around April/May time. However, it seems there can be exceptions to the rules via a "End of Series Derogation"- never heard of this before and not sure how someone the size of VW would get away with bending the rules in such a way?
