360° Cameras / Blindspot Cameras Install

Has anyone ever installed side cameras on the wing mirrors or similar as blindspot cameras to their T5.1?

I have seen some posts on the T6/T6.1 boards from a few years back relating to a £300ish product but that’s outta my price range unfortunately.

If so, do you have any pics and how did you feed the cables for power & RCA etc?

I have an aftermarket Android head unit, front camera in the roundel, rear high brake light camera and I was then tempted by these either stand alone into the video feed, selected when I want to view them, or all controlled by a wee box like this to be a bit more fancy.

There are few to no reviews though so I don’t want to embark on it if there are known pitfalls or if the hive mind has experience it can impart.

I have also considered fitting additional cameras. I thought that cameras installed within the vehicle, perhaps on or close to the C pillar or on dash near to C pillar as close to side windows as possible looking back. This would probably give a better image than the side mirrors with the added advantage of not needing to move ones head if the monitor was either close to the instrument binnacle or there about or on the drop-down sunshade. Also an additional Rear View Camera mounted within but looking through the swept potion of the rear windscreen.perhaps suspended from above or at least above the pivot point of the wiper but looking through the swept area. Perhaps even a forward facing camera mounted looking through swept area of the front screen but on the near passenger side to facilitate looking through tight right hand bends.

I wold prefer a monitor large enough to have all images displayed at once and at all times. Either to have wired in or via a cigarette plug. Something like that.

A few years ago now I fitted a camera into the passenger wing mirror underneath as I had a very narrow drive entrance to get in and out of. The pioneer head unit I had had several video inputs and I was able to switch on the camera from a dashboard switch which then acted a bit like a reversing camera and switched on the camera display with the side camera. The cables I fed alongside the existing wiring for the aerial and mirror heater, from memory there is a large rubber grommet or seal the cabling passes through to prevent water entering the door from the mirror housing.
