A month in France

@blue32a we love your plans, just what we have done for many years. I hope that you haven't had any problems with the fires in the Gironde.

We've already had five plus weeks in Europe and will be heading out again for a similar time later this month. No idea where we will end up, just looking for the weather!

Les marchés français sont exorbitants, surtout si vous établissez un contact visuel avec la marchande de fromages. Les supermarchés sont légèrement moins chers et assez souvent exactement les mêmes produits. Vous ne couvrirez pas le fond d'un chariot de supermarché pour moins de 50 €. Nous avons utilisé Aldi & Lidl qui sont méprisés par les Français, mais qui sont très bons. Comme mentionné, les menus de table d'hôte sont d'un bon rapport qualité-prix et probablement moins chers que d'acheter les ingrédients et de les cuisiner vous-même. Intermarché a le diesel le moins cher, mais c'est le pire supermarché à mon humble avis.

French markets are extortionate, especially if you make eye contact with the cheese stall woman. Supermarkets are marginally cheaper & quite often exactly the same produce. You won’t cover the bottom of a supermarket trolley for under €50. We used Aldi & Lidl who are looked down on by the French, but are very good. As mentioned the, table d’hote menus are good value & probably cheaper than buying the ingredients & cooking it yourself. Intermarche has the cheapest diesel, but is the worst supermarket imho.

I disagree with you!
You find the French markets exorbitant, but you have quality products and especially local (cheese, meats, vegetables, fruits, honey etc...), quality is paid for.
When at Lidl and Aldi, they are not despised by the French, and Intermarché is very recommendable.
And all the regions are worth a visit, be it the Cantal, the Alps, the Basque country, Provence (at home) Brittany etc....
