Aftermarket speakers and water ingress.

Anyone had this issue resolved by VW at all? Basically with them taking the blame and knowing the cause?
I feel I might struggle with VW seeing as quite a lot of people are having this problem since upgrading their audio...
I fitted mine exactly has @Dellmassive has done in the photo above, I also fitted the speakers upside down so the connections were at the top. They've been in 6 years with zero issues.

the OEM speakers sit in front of the door sheet, so are not effected by any water issues.

aftermarket and larger speakers tend to protrude into the wet area of the door . . . meaning rain/water protection is needed.

whats your issues? - do you have OEM factory speakers or aftermarket?

FWIW: i fell fowl of water damage:

thank you. I have aftermarket speakers / audio upgrade. Since then I've noticed water on my front step area. Having searched the internet I came across several threads on here with the same problem.
I’m booking my van in for the SOS work shortly along with a couple of other ongoing problems and thought about mentioning the water issue. It’s only got a couple of months warranty left but I have a feeling they might say it’s due to work being done by a third party.

Yeh... VW won't deal with that as warranty as you have modified the van and removed the OEM speaker.

Maybe go to your audio installer and ask if the fitted anything? If not ask them to fit something? Or do yourself.

Tbh it's a very T6 specific thing.

And I wouldn't expec a general high street car audio shop to know about the problem. So I wouldn't blame them if they didn't fit any water gaurds.....

Just direct them to this thread to explain.

And get some water gaurds fitted before it's too late.

Some speakers are made for 'wet door' fitment. I know on my BMW I had to get Eatons specifically for this. My Golf is the same, wet door with drains in the bottom..the rear speaker seals went recently and I had the same problem with water on the steps. A plastic sheet can be fitted to the back of the speaker or housing to stop water getting in if you don't have the correct speakers.

Thanks. I'm still waiting for my converter to call back about fixing some other issues so I'll mention it then.
I was only thinking about mentioning it to VW and playing dumb about why water is finding it's way in onto the step. Ultimately I don't know if it's a problem caused by VW or the installer but having them check might give me an idea

If a professional business installs components that subsequently get damaged due to their design or cause damage to other components they are not fit for purpose.
Get your money back.
