Ahhh not again

For the third time someone has hit my van whilst parked in a car park. Both corners were scratched and now someone has put a big dent in the tailgate. How are people such bad drivers. I’m hoping I’ve just been really unlucky and I park soooo carefully in the hope people won’t keep doing this but ahhh. I’m not to precious about most things but some people have beautiful vans and cars and it must be anxiety inducing ever leaving them.

Cheers

Toby

Thats why I always park at the back / furthest away from the shop where all the empty spaces are. The bad drivers are usually lazy feckers too so park nearest the door.

That said there is usually someone parked next to me when I get back to the van despite being dozens of empty spaces around

ask the car park for any CCTV footage and then report the incident to the police for leaving the scene.

WRT reporting to the police, don't let them fob you off with the "it happened on private land, so not our problem". This is BS, as the RTA applies to private land if there is a reasonable expectation that the public will drive on that land (obviously a no-brainer for a carpark!!).

good info there

Cheers for the advice, I had a look today but could see no cameras but will have another look tomorrow. Garage knows a good dent puller/ body shop but I may try and pop them out myself depending on how brave I’m feeling and how much I trust YouTube videos

I do the same - park furthest from the door in the quietest area, like you, in a sea of available spaces just to pretty much find someone who obviously thinks ‘safety in numbers’ has parked right next to me, usually with a corner of their car in ‘my’ space as they can’t be bothered to turn the steering wheel when pulling in.
There are so many thoughtless and skill free drivers around.

I always try and use the work van rule when out in my T6. That is to take at least 2 spaces if the carpark is busy. 4 if it's empty. Just in case.

It might be time to consider installing a ‘witness’ camera. I have an Auto-Vox V5 Mirror Dash Cam installed in my van with front and rear cameras. The cameras continuously records whenever the van is parked up and will provide you with some visual evidence if someone hits you whilst the vehicle is unattended. I’ve installed it so that the camera is powered by the leisure battery.
