Had this weird situation this morning. Coming off a slip road and long sweeping bend. This is when it started. Possibly going faster than I’d usually go. No warming display on dash. Radio on and sounded like I’d lost DAB signal only to be replaced with R2D2. Had speakers play (white noise ) individually left right and the rears same thing at first then the tweeting high pitch as I started recording.
Switched off radio same thing. Then it stopped put radio back on then a different sound which was a more consistent beeping ,radio off then only stopping once the ignition off.
Van just had service mot at VW

Strange ? Very
Ideas welcome.

Was your phone connected to the radio? Were you listening via your phone or by dab/fm?

That second one sounds too much like a ‘sad trombone’ musical phrase to be a coincidence. How strange.

Are these not test tones used to set up/check everything is working in the factory? I have no idea why they decided to enable themselves mid journey but that is what they sound like to me.

Checks the speakers are connected, working, their range etc.

I think you can enable a test tone with vcds on some older units but maybe it has been updated and extended in the 6.1 and somehow enabled itself.

Have had the stereo upgraded with kicker speakers and amp since new. It did sound like the speakers were testing at first with them playing independently moving around the van front to rear left and right.Similat to surround sound set up. But why the R2D2 ? & the “ sad trombone “ Have had a couple times the stereo has turned off and then turned back on again Maybe a loose connection but this would possibly happen on the rougher road surfaces. Hasn’t happened since maybe a one off but s.f.w.
These sounds were also same when headunit radio turned off ?

14 seconds into the first video - didn't see past that - there is a little arrow and NW just above and to the right of the digital speedo.

Some test tones include noises like these as part of the set up process. Since you mention you have an amp, it is also possible that this is the source of them rather than the head unit. Maybe something is triggering them (voltage spikes from poor connection, something else, faulty unit?).

Wouldn’t concern me a lot unless it happens again, and if it does maybe start looking into narrowing down the source.

An audio specialist such as @Absolut5 or @Dav-Tec might have a better guess as they deal with this all the time.

Wonder if there’s a DSP in the chain that’s trying to perform some kind of auto calibration? Those chirps do sound like they’re probing the frequency response of the speakers.

If you can tell us the amp / DSP model we can see if there’s an autoconfig that being triggered.

Hi there it’s a Kicker Key amp model 180.4
That’s the culprit. It’s got an in-built DSP and boasts ‘auto equalisation’. Somehow it’s been kicked into setup mode.

Manual says there’s a button on the mic. Where’s the mic? Could it have been accidentally pressed when you took the long corner?
