Hi All,

I did a bit of a search but couldn't find a definitive answer on my question.

I've just bought an Alpine Halo 9 (ILX-F903D) second hand and wondering what I need to do/purchase to utilise the OEM Reversing camera?

Thanks in advance for any support

all you need is a simple adapter that plugs into the quadlock plug, stock item

Hi all, been abit stumped on this one!

Fitted a kufatec loom and wired it as per instructions but seem to be getting horrendous interference and the camera image either doesn’t come up or the image comes up super flickers and goes within a couple of seconds.

I’ve wired as per kufatec instructions below:

Sounds like you may have the coax the wrong way round, i.e. shield to 6, core to pin 12.

Unfortunately shield and core are in the correct terminals so my search continues.

The kufatec instructions say to run the camera loom down the same cable run as the main power loom but I haven’t seen anyone else find this issue so I’m not sure it’s that.

Anyone else got any ideas? Starting to wish I never bothered now.

Thanks

Is the cameras settings on NSTC ?

Try moving the reverse feed for the camera to a ignition supply

Going to attempt my halo install next week, and the van I’ve bought looks like it has a generic/china built reversing camera kit (think this is it below), which requires the yellow RCA, so I found a conversion cable on eBay (photo below for £8) . I hope it all works..

Keeping this thread going should anyone else try to install a (cheap ??) OEM reversing camera with a HALO 9 (mine is the ILX-905D) .

The previous owner admitted they had the installer put an basic T6 reversing camera and dedicated TFT monitor when they did their van conversion last year and she admitted it was intermittent, assuming it was the monitor at fault. Therefore my hope was that with the Halo 9 on the shopping list, that screen would come to my rescue with the relevant adaptor.. Hummm it seems that’s not playing out that way..

To give you some background.

Here’s a picture of the cables that had been run to the dash-monitor - (A) the blue wire (connected to the green wire) is sending 12v+ only when the van placed in reverse, (B) the black/ black&grey wires (that connect to the red/blue spades, and then into the red/black wires ) are a constant 12v+ & GND when the ignition is on and then (C) the Yellow Video RCA male goes to the dash-monitor female video input)

I have the camera input enabled on the Halo 9, and have tried both PAL and NTSC formats but continue to get nothing on screen …

My assumption is that the camera has it’s own 12+/GND feed at the back of the van, and the issue is either (1) the camera itself, (2) cabling along the way or (3) Alpine RCA Video to molex adaptor is not picking it up. A friend’s bringing an old 7” TFT screen with RCA inputs for me to test the video feed - so that will help me further troubleshoot

If anyone has any ideas, (or can just confirm my logic) I’d love to hear them

And here is the other (camera) end..

Coming out of the high level break light are 3 cables (+12v when in reverse), (GND) and (Video RCA)
Still trying to trace the what and where each wire goes:)

Sorry mate. But that looks a proper nest of trouble to me. Might be better off just ripping it all out and start again. With the Alpine direct connection camera. Even if you do manage to get it to work, who knows for how long, those cheap Chinese jobbies are known for poor wiring quality.

Agreed, although I’m going to avoid a rewire at all costs - I’m not up for taking the whole van apart

Hopefully I’ll be able to make it work - it looks like Alpine are known for not playing nice when it comes to wiring in OEM cameras.

It looks messy but in the end I think it’s ultimately

Rear : 3 cables (+12v when in reverse), (GND) and (Video RCA) coming out of the top barn door light

Front : 4 cables (+12v when in reverse), (+12v Ignition), (GND to the front metal cross bar) and (Video RCA)

I’m going to use a multi-meter later to try and trace the cables, so I know what goes from the front to the back.

Hey @monty999, thanks for checking in - I’m closer to the end, but sadly not over the line yet..

He’s the story so far…

As I couldn’t get a picture on the Alpine, i tried the camera’s yellow AV into an old kids mini-monitor I had which had the 3 RCA ports on it, and as I couldn’t get an image on that either - I assumed the reverse camera was the problem so I took that out (Paint came off removing high level rear light - best thing to do ?).. () and I ordered a new camera one ebay..

Anyway - to cut a very long story, the latest is - (a) i subsequently found out that the kids mini monitor I’d used was faulty and can’t show any image and (b) the existing camera does work if it goes directly into the Alpine unit (via the recommended Alpine/AV conversion cable, (photo earlier) fed with a constant (ignition based) 12v.+

So, as I type this, and the snow is falling outside, I need to find an opportunity to test the connections in and to/from the back to the front.

Based on how (when it’s constantly powered ), I can simply click the camera button on the front of the Alpine unit to get a live feed out the back, i’m going to see if I can retain that feature, rather than have it only powered when placed in reverse.

To get the camera to do both modes,

The camera power needs an ignition feed , no camera connection to the reverse wire .
