Another "what headlight bulb?" thread , eek

I've searched a fair bit, and it seems the THQ light replacement is the go-to choice for t6 and t6.1

However, I just can't justify the cost, especially with all the customs etc we have to pay here on Ireland.
Plus it's a work van.

So, in LED replacement bulbs, and uprated Halogen, what have people used, that works?
I can focus them in work, and I should be able to turn off bulb failure warnings.

I want good light output, not just an LED appearance.

I am regularly in the road late at night with work and rallying.

And the horror stories of how bad T6.1 lights are is concerning me tbh.

The Phillips or Osram are the best halogen upgrade bulbs you can get.

The LED ones you linked are H15 so not suitable for the Transporter. Look for H7 ones. Again, Osram or Phillips would be a good bet. Just check the legality side of things for you in Ireland as an LED upgrade in the standard headlamps is illegal in the UK and is now a mandatory MOT fail.

Tbh, I'm not worried about the test side of things.

I thought t6.1 had h15 for the heads?, and h7 dip?

I thought it was H7 for dipped beam - is that not what you want to improve for the majority of the time? You are right about it using an H15, but I’m sure that’s for side, DRL and main (full). I may be wrong as I have a T6!

It is not generally legal in the UK to replace incandescent halogen bulbs with LED bulbs. In the EU LED Replacement bulbs for Halogen are regulated for providing the are certificated for. I seem to recall only Phillips and Osram have necessary certification for certain vehicle and certain LED Bulbs. I do not believe its legal to just fit any LED replacement in the EU only as I have suggested. Their are articles on line concerning this and Philips has publications referencing LED replacements also for the EU.

One of the car magazine in UK publication has done test on Headlight Bulb Comparison and also included a LED replacement for dip H7 and H? main beam, momentary laps in memory. They did give results and comments. For the dipped beam they said although illegal here in the UK that the replacement LED far exceeded the best Halogen in all considerations by a fair margin. For Main Beam it was suggested that Halogen was better overall even better than LED. In this case for main beem it did say that range was not so good for LED but spread was good. It was suggested that it came down to bulb geometry and the way LED bulbs are manufactured that the say suited better dipped beam H7.

I could not encourage anyone to do something illegal but for safety Bulbs by Philips and Osram, the only manufacturers that are certificated as replenishments for specific vehicle would be the ones to look at. Fist they are likely to give the best results are safer because of Exceptionally high tolerance manufacture. Second, they may become legal here sometime but do not let us hold our breath, not because of reluctance to adopt them but rather a case of having time for legislation.

Collected my van today, it got dark before I got home.

OMFG . How is it possible that the dims could be so bad, in this day and age.

Yes I'm ashamed to say my headlights are absolutely shocking  luckily I don't need to do much night time driving .

From what others have said - the T6 and T5 were much worse.

I have the Factory LED and Low Beam is pretty good - but the high beam was lacking a little - so added Lazer Lamps Elite too.

But that's another large expense on the money pit.....

Mine are okay on dip - they're faster than the van.

Which raises a pertinent point. Halogen output decreases significantly with use. How many of those complaining have vans with a few miles under their wheels and tired bulbs as a consequence?

Often new standard bulbs alone will make a noticeable improvement, and the high performance bulbs from Osram etc a very significant one.
