Any glaziers or competant diyers?

They are in the bottom left and top right on both axis, not sure there if there will be any give in them

I've replaced a few hinges on my 21 Yr old units when they break on a pivot point. Not too bad to do diy but learned the lesson that you need to replace both hinges not only the one that broke.....£8 a pair from screwfix, rather than £50 from the local window doctor guys.
I have got a couple of units where they aren’t pulling right to the seals so need to replace the hinges. I keep putting it off as not sure how the hell to hold them and do replace, but sure I will manage somehow!

So I have the x and y dimension after removing the beading. The unit has been very tightly packed with various widths of spacers, I'm struggling to get it out to get the thickness. Will a few taps with a rubber mallet from the outside free it or is there another technique. I don't fancy forking out for that special width measuring tool...

Open the window a bit, then lift the bottom corner opposite the hinge. That will take the pressure off the top right packers.

When you re-fit, put the bottom corner packers in first, then the side ones in the opposite corner, then finally the top ones, lifting the sash up to make space to get them in. It's done like this to transfer the weight of the glass down to the bottom hinge side corner to prevent the sash from dropping out of square.

Take the glass out. The sash will be not only lighter, it'll be easier to hold on to.

If your going to be doing a few units it’s worth buying yourself one of these shovels. This particular brand is of softer feel to some of the others. More forgiving on the units. If you open your sash to the vent position about finger width open and lock the handle back down. It’s the easiest way to toe n heel your sash. Use the shovel at the top next to packers and use a small screwdriver or scraper to hook the packers out. Once there out the unit will sometimes come out. If not open The sash slightly and slam it shut. This will sometimes free the unit off. Make sure you place your hand on the glass to stop it jumping out on the slam.
You can also get the shovel In Once the packers are removed and push the unit left n right to help free it off. Hope this helps
